Busch
Last race: Kevin Harvick took the lead with 51 laps to go and needed a late caution to hold off Scott Riggs to win the crash-filled Hardee's 250 under caution. The race at Richmond, Va., featured an event-record 14 cautions that slowed the pace for 93 laps, including a crash by Mike Bliss that brought out the 13th yellow flag after 241 laps.
Last year: Greg Biffle got his third Busch victory of the 2002 season, holding off Ron Hornaday in the Charter Pipeline 250 at Gateway International Raceway. Biffle edged Hornaday by 1.945 seconds. Fast facts: Points leader Todd Bodine finished 29th at Richmond, his worst showing of the year, and saw his lead shrink from 99 points over Hornaday to 40 over David Green. ... Jason Keller holds the Gateway record with four top-five finishes in Busch Series competition, including two second-place showings. Keller's only finishes out of the top five came in 1998 and 2002. ... No pole winners have won the race. ... Dale Earnhardt Jr. won this race in 1998 and 1999 before Harvick took it the next two years. ... Chevrolets won the first five Busch races at Gateway before Biffle broke the streak last year in a Ford. Next race: Nazareth 200, May 18, Nazareth, Pa.
CART
Last race: Rookie Sebastien Bourdais recorded his first CART victory in only his fourth career start after winning the circuit's first visit to Brands Hatch, England. His teammate, Bruno Junqueira finished second Last year: Inaugural race. Fast facts: CART did not race in Germany last year. Kenny Brack won at Klettwitz in the circuit's first and only visit there in 2001. ... Two-time CART champion Alex Zanardi lost both legs when his car was hit by another traveling about 200 mph in the 2001 German race renamed the American Memorial 500 following the terrorist attacks. The 34-year-old Italian was leading that race with 12 laps to go and is expected to complete them in a specialized car this weekend. ... Paul Tracy had his season-opening three-race winning streak snapped at Brands Hatch after his engine failed with 47 laps to go. He has an 11-point lead over Bruno Junqueira in the standings.
