Last race: Kevin Harvick took the lead with 51 laps to go and needed a late caution to hold off Scott Riggs to win the crash-filled Hardee's 250 under caution. The race at Richmond, Va., featured an event-record 14 cautions that slowed the pace for 93 laps, including a crash by Mike Bliss that brought out the 13th yellow flag after 241 laps.

Last year: Greg Biffle got his third Busch victory of the 2002 season, holding off Ron Hornaday in the Charter Pipeline 250 at Gateway International Raceway. Biffle edged Hornaday by 1.945 seconds.

Fast facts: Points leader Todd Bodine finished 29th at Richmond, his worst showing of the year, and saw his lead shrink from 99 points over Hornaday to 40 over David Green. ... Jason Keller holds the Gateway record with four top-five finishes in Busch Series competition, including two second-place showings. Keller's only finishes out of the top five came in 1998 and 2002. ... No pole winners have won the race. ... Dale Earnhardt Jr. won this race in 1998 and 1999 before Harvick took it the next two years. ... Chevrolets won the first five Busch races at Gateway before Biffle broke the streak last year in a Ford.

Fast facts: CART did not race in Germany last year. Kenny Brack won at Klettwitz in the circuit's first and only visit there in 2001. ... Two-time CART champion Alex Zanardi lost both legs when his car was hit by another traveling about 200 mph in the 2001 German race renamed the American Memorial 500 following the terrorist attacks. The 34-year-old Italian was leading that race with 12 laps to go and is expected to complete them in a specialized car this weekend. ... Paul Tracy had his season-opening three-race winning streak snapped at Brands Hatch after his engine failed with 47 laps to go. He has an 11-point lead over Bruno Junqueira in the standings.

Winston Cup
Last race: Joe Nemechek overcame a pit-road blunder that cost him 24 spots by gambling on tires and getting help from late-race cautions and rain to win the Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond, Va. Nemechek missed the turn for pit road and was shuffled from first to 25th place but rebounded and was in the lead when rain ended the race with 6 laps to go.

Craftsman Trucks
Last race: Dennis Setzer passed Chad Chaffin with 51 laps to go and held on through a series of late restarts to win the Advance Auto Parts 250 at Martinsville, Va., on April 12. Setzer, the defending champion, earned his ninth career victory and became the first driver to win twice on tight, narrow Martinsville Speedway, where the close quarters produced 11 caution flags.

Formula One
Last race: Michael Schumacher won the Spanish Grand Prix for his second straight victory, moving within four points of points leader Kimi Raikkonen, who crashed just after the start. Schumacher, driving his new Ferrari F2003-GA, won his third straight and fifth overall Spanish Grand Prix title.

Next event: Austrian Grand Prix, May 18, Spielberg.

IRL
Last event: American Scott Sharp won the crash-filled Indy Japan 300 and moved into a tie for the lead in career victories in the series. Sharp finished under the yellow flag at Twin Ring Motegi for his eighth career IRL victory, matching Sam Hornish Jr. and Buddy Lazier for wins in the series.

This weekend: Indy 500 pole qualifying, May 10-11.

NHRA
Last race: Larry Dixon reclaimed the Top Fuel points lead with his win at the Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway. Tony Pedregon collected his fourth win of the season and 23rd of his career in Funny Car while Warren Johnson earned his 90th career Pro Stock victory.
