Last race: After posting consecutive second-place finishes the previous two weeks, Ryan Newman finally recorded his first career victory by winning the rain-shortened New Hampshire 300. The caution flag came out on lap 199 before NASCAR officials ended the race eight laps later.

Check out a short list of drivers to keep an eye on this weekend at Dover.

Last year: Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Cal Ripken Jr. 400 in Dover, leading 193 of 400 laps.

Fast facts: Newman has eight top-five finishes in his last 10 starts and a series-leading 13 in 27 races. He had five second-place finishes before winning in his 35th career start. ... Sterling Marlin finished 21st last week and lost the points lead for the first time since the second race of the season. Mark Martin finished 16th and leads Marlin by six points. The top five drivers in the standings are separated by just 67 points with nine races remaining. ... Races have been won by 16 different drivers this season, three short of the circuit record set last year. ... Newman's win last week gave team owner Roger Penske his 42nd career NASCAR victory. His drivers have also claimed 11 Indianapolis 500s and 11 open-wheel championships. ... Jimmie Johnson won the MBNA Platinum 400 at Dover on June 2.

Last race: Dale Earnhardt Jr. completed a dominating week by winning the Funai 250 at Richmond on Sept. 6. He shattered the track qualifying record with a speed of 126.868 mph before leading 190 of the 250 laps for his second Busch win in three starts this season.

Last year: Jeff Green won the MBNA.com 200 after polesitter Ryan Newman started a three-car crash. Newman dominated the race until taking four tires on the 176th of 200 laps. Green took two tires and got out of the pits second to Mike McLaughlin, whom he passed on lap 180. After exiting the pits fourth, Newman tried to force his way through on the bottom of the track, but was unable to hold his line and tapped Matt Kenseth into McLaughlin, who hit the wall.

Fast Facts: Greg Biffle, who won the MBNA Platinum 200 on June 1, holds a 78-point lead over Jason Keller in the standings after finished sixth at Richmond. Biffle has finished among the top-10 in 13 of his last 14 races and has held the points lead since the Daytona race July 5. ... Keller has 15 top-five finishes this season, including four wins. The top-five finishes is one better than his previous career-high of 14 set last year. ... Earnhardt Jr. has 15 career Busch series wins. ... The race at Richmond featured 11 cautions for 83 laps. Derrike Cope was involved in a spectacular wreck and was hospitalized with a broken right shoulder and ankle. Scott Riggs and Jack Sprague also left the race after separate crashes.

Craftsman Trucks

Schedule Saturday, qualifying, Noon; race (ESPN2, 3:30 p.m.).
Track South Boston Speedway (oval, 0.4 miles, 7 degrees banking in turns).
Distance 100 miles, 250 laps.

Last race: Rookie Brendan Gaughan took the lead when Ted Musgrave spun out with 14 laps left and held on to win the Silverado 350 at Texas Motor Speedway. It was Gaughan's second win of the season, both coming at Texas.

Last year: Ted Musgrave, avoiding trouble that produced a series-record 77 caution laps, won the NetZero 250 in South Boston, Va., to clinch Dodge's first series manufacturers' title. Musgrave led twice for 185 of the 200 laps. Dennis Setzer closed to within four truck lengths and finished second. The official margin of victory was 0.954 seconds.

Fast facts: Mike Bliss finished ninth last week despite starting on the pole but still maintains a 40-point lead over Rick Crawford atop the standings. ... Regan Smith, 18, is expected to make his truck debut this weekend with MB Motorsports. Smith raced for the USAR Pro Cup Series the last two years after capturing the Allison Legacy Series points championship in 1999. He recorded four straight poles for USAR last year. ... Bobby Hamilton Racing signed 20-year-old Ryan Hemphill for this weekend's race. Hemphill made two truck starts this season at Memphis and Milwaukee. ... The track was a charter member of the Busch series in 1982.

NHRA

Event O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals
Site Millington, Tenn.
Schedule Friday, qualifying, 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, qualifying (ESPN2, 10 p.m., tape); Sunday, eliminations (ESPN2, 4 p.m., tape.).
Track Memphis Motorsports Park.

Last event: Jim Yates regained the Pro Stock points lead at the Lucas Oil Nationals in Mohnton, Pa., with his first win of the season. Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel), Tony Pedregon (Funny Car) and Angelle Savoie (Pro Stock Bike) also won during the eliminations that were delayed one day by rain.

Last year: Gary Densham (Funny Car) and George Marnell (Pro Stock), two of drag racing's most noted journeymen, earned their first career victories in the AutoZone Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park. Kenny Bernstein and Mike Coughlin also won.

Fast facts: Savoie defeated Karen Stoffer in the sport's first all-female bike final. The first all-female final overall occurred 20 years earlier when Shirley Muldowney bested Lucille Lee in 1982. ... Kenny Bernstein has five second-place finishes this season after bowing to Kalitta at Mohnton. ... There have been 12 different winners in Pro Stock this season. ... Top Fuel drivers Larry Dixon and Tony Schumacher were involved in crashes during the 2000 event. ... Ron Capps snapped a 45-event winless streak with his victory in the 2000 event. ... The event was first held in 1998.

CART
Last race: Dario Franchitti seized the lead with 38 laps left and narrowly beat points leader Cristiano da Matta to the finish line to win the Rockingham 500 in England. Franchitti won for the first time on an oval, the third time this year and for the 10th time in his career while remaining in contention for the CART title with four races remaining.

Next race: Grand Prix of the Americas, Oct. 6, Miami.

Formula One
Last event: Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher delighted the Italian Ferrari fans with a one-two sweep in the Grand Prix of Italy at Monza. It was Barrichello's third win of the season and Ferrari's 13th in 15 races.

Next event: U.S. Grand Prix, Sept. 29, Indianapolis.

IRL
Last race: Sam Hornish edged Helio Castroneves to win the Chevy 500 at Texas Motor Speedway to clinch his second straight IRL title. Hornish nipped Castroneves by .0096 seconds, the second-closest finish in series history, becoming the first driver to win two IRL championships. The two closest finishes in the circuit's seven-year history have occurred in the last two races, with five of the 15 races this season decided by less than one-tenth of a second and eight races with finishing margins of less than one second.
