2002 recap
The good: Added on to Eddie Cheever's team for the final five races and immediately impressed -- taking second in his debut at Michigan, finishing fourth at Gateway and placing sixth at Texas.

Season highlight: Showed up at Michigan with very little testing and qualified second. Led 15 laps but lost out to teammate Tomas Scheckter by 1.7 seconds at finish.

Rice, right, had four top-10s in five IRL starts last year.

The bad: Qualified sixth at Kentucky but faded to 12th.

Key stat: Led 37 laps in five races and qualified on front row twice.

2003 outlook
This ex-Toyota Atlantic champion got nothing but false promises from CART so he made the best of Cheever's IRL offer and has turned it into a full-time ride with the Red Bull squad.
