Wednesday, August 20 Cut tire dooms Harvick late Associated Press BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Travis Kvapil led just one lap Wednesday night at Bristol Motor Speedway, but it was the one that counted most. Kvapil, apparently headed for his fourth second-place finish of the season, won Wednesday night's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series O'Reilly 200 race when leader Kevin Harvick wrecked on the next-to-last lap at Bristol Motor Speedway. Harvick, who'd led since the 75th lap, cut a tire in Turn 4 of the .533-mile track as he was completing lap 199. He didn't complete the final lap because his truck stalled. Kvapil, three lengths behind, was able to avoid Harvick's accident. The victory snapped a 29-race winless streak, extending to June 2002 at Memphis Motorsports Park. Kvapil's third career win gave him the series points lead, eight points ahead of previous leader Brendan Gaughan, who finished fourth. Kvapil averaged 88.813 mph and beat veteran Robert Pressley by 3.403 seconds -- about a fifth of a lap. Kvapil was the race's fourth leader. Gaughan and pole starter Ted Musgrave also headed the 35-truck field. There were six cautions for 27 laps -- but none after a lap 123 slowdown for debris in the first turn. Rick Crawford was third, followed by Gaughan and Dennis Setzer. |
