2002 recap
This 21-year-old German made a favorable impression in his Champ car debut last year at Mexico City -- starting 18th and finishing 12th but recording the sixth fastest lap of the race despite no previous testing in a Champ car.

2003 outlook
CART's Champ Car World Series was hoping to have a German driver for its return to EuroSpeedway this May and Lotterer is a last-minute replacement for Dale Coyne Racing (Roberto Gonzalez is out). The ex-test driver for the Jaguar Formula One team is starting off at a big disadvantage with no pre-season testing but Bobby Rahal is very high on this young man's potential.
