Tuesday, January 21 Updated: January 29, 4:40 PM ET Comments on CART drivers ESPN.com We spotlighted CART drivers Paul Tracy and Jimmy Vasser. Here are your thoughts on their '02 campaigns and prospects for next season:
Paul Tracy
Joe Slattery Pickerington, Ohio
Isn't it funny how time flies? It wasn't that long ago when Paul Page joked about Paul Tracy that "He's been so much off the race track that some of the chipmunks are beginning to recognize him." And now he's CART's elder statesman ... rightfully so, because he's got speed, flair, is outspoken and still exciting, on and ... erm, off the track. Sascha André Michael Nersingen, Germany
Paul is the most exciting racer in CART history. No one has ever been as daring or risky as Paul has been over the years. His loyalty to CART has been nothing but the best. He truly is an ambassador for the sport. A true competitor who speaks his mind, who always brings everything he has to the track on any given day. This WILL be Paul's year to rise to the top and get his first CART CHAMPIONSHIP. Brad Gerhart Windsor, Ontario
I hope Tracy wins the championship this year. This guy should have gone to F1 long time ago, when he had the chance. He would have been Michael Schumacher's teammate. His aggressive style and his testing ability would have been an awesome combination. I hope he has a good 2003 season and beats Junqueira to the title. Shane Wimalen Camp Hill, Pa.
Requirements for Tracy to win a CART championship: 1. One car in CART 2. Tracy driving it
Even then it's iffy -- he can wipe out himself.
Jimmy Vasser
Brianna Hall Chicago
JV's going to have his work cut out for him against established teams like Player's and Newman/Haas, but his experience should help him and the team to some podium finishes this year. CART keeps on bringing out the announcements and good news. Way to go CART and Chris Pook! Gabe Salazar Fayetteville, N.C.
Vasser's 2002 season with Team Rahal started with lots of promise but he had more than his share of bad luck in the early races. By season's end he was on roll and back in the points where he belongs. This momentum should carry into 2003 and his new ride with American Spirit Racing. 2003 could be deja vu all over again: Jimmy in the No. 12 car and mentor to an up and coming young driver. Let's hope history (1996) repeats itself. Best of luck JV! Cathy Shumaker Downingtown, Pa.
Unfortunately, Jimmy is done. He has won the championship before and now he is just a survivor. He is experienced enough not to crash your car, but not hungry, daring or brave enough to push it to the limit. Young bloods like Pantano and Bourdais will outdrive him when it comes to real racing. H.C. Jover Encino, Calif.
Jimmy, stick with the stock cars. You and Jimmy Spencer would be a great team. Honestly, stay with the fendered cars. Ted Main Salt Lake City |
