Good racing, bad whining
ESPN.com

We asked RPM.ESPN.com users to share their thoughts on last weekend's race action. Here are some of the comments:

I thought the IRL race was fantastic! Reliability is on the rise and once the teams figure out the concrete, watch out! Great racing in open wheels. As for New Hampshire, it can't get any worse unless they raced in the rain! Terrible race conditions!

Cadillac Grand Prix -- Washington D.C., hot temperatures, hot, hot race. It must come back to the district! Noise is expected, sorry if you can't take the NOISE. Hearings were held, people objected but the Council prevailed. The democratic process was at work. Maybe a better temporary sound barrier could be erected. Overall, track was excellent, course is tough but fair. Overall, a good test of man and machine.

Fairfax, Va.

Schumacher is the man. I think if Jeff Gordon or some of the other drivers, be it IRL/CART/NASCAR, want to be considered the best of the best they need to get into Formula 1 racing. I love racing and think the top drivers are in F1. Don't think I have forgotten about you, Jeremy McGrath. Or you, Cruz Pedregon. Even you, Angelle Savioe. If you wanna be the best, you gotta beat the best -- And that's Schumacher!

I'm a little concerned over the fact that drivers are following in the footsteps of their major league brethren in that the are all whining about the track conditions at NHIS this past weekend. Suck it up and just think of the ordinary fan and their families who plunked down cash (last year in advance) for the event, who do not collectively earn what some of these good old boys earned for a 300-mile ride around the oval.

After watching 43 of the best slip and slid at New Hampshire, I think NASCAR needs to step in and tell these tracks to fix their problems or we'll find a new place to race.

Guy Rigsby
Concord, Ohio

Something should be said in the media about the enthusiastic sellout crowd at the IRL race at Nashville. They are having great, exciting races and it will be interesting to see if this success goes on at other venues such as Michigan this coming weekend.

Robert Butler
Germantown, Tenn.

I agree! If NASCAR wants to punish drivers/crew chiefs for an infraction, keep the punishment the same for everyone throughout the year. This is not the first time. The fines that have been imposed for the same infractions are hardly ever the same. If NASCAR wants to make a statement, then set the rules and enforce them equally. If NASCAR teams were union (and thank God they're not) we would probably be like baseball and wondering if we could get in a full season.

Natural Bridge, N.Y.

How come no mention of Ricky Carmichael? He hasn't lost this year in Motocross, and has had back to back championships in Supercross?

David Gunter
Tallahassee, Fla.

I'd like to see some mention of the Featherlite Modified Race that took place on Saturday morning! It was a great race and an exciting finish! The modifieds always put on a great show at Loudon! The cup race was actually a good one too -- though it was tough on some of the cars and drivers. It was interesting to see so many lead changes in a cup race! The mods normally have the most lead changes up there!

Jerilyn Duefrene
Waterford, Conn.

Gil de Ferran is one of my favorite drivers, but at the end of that race I didn't mind seeing him finish second to Alex Barron! Congratulations to Alex! I hope he continues to succeed in the IRL.
