Head coach Mike Shula is quickly rebuilding Alabama in the recruiting process.
Headed for the Tide are defensive lineman Chris Turner of Jacksonville-Ed White, Fla/Northwest Mississippi CC, Miss., who picked Florida State as a prep; plus three teammates from Hoover, Ala., in quarterback John Parker Wilson, defensive lineman Jerami Holifield and linebacker/defensive lineman Curtis Dawson. Wilson, who will also play baseball at Alabama, passed for 3826 yards and 40 touchdowns as a senior. He also had offers from Clemson, Mississippi, Mississippi State and Tennessee, among others. LSU leads the 2004 Top Recruiting Classes. Other top programs making an early charge are Texas, Southern California, Miami-Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Penn State, Georgia and Maryland.
