Baylor's request that the NCAA waive its rule that transfers must sit out one academic year before playing for their new school was granted, NCAA spokesman Jeff Howard said.
Three players have transfered from Baylor after former head coach Dave Bliss resigned amid major NCAA rules violations.
Junior guard Kenny Taylor of Sugar Land-Willowridge, Tex., who was third in scoring with 11.8 points average for the Bears last season, picked Texas. Taylor is still subject to a Big 12 transfer rule which forces a player transfering within the conference to lose a year of eligibility. Texas hopes to waive the Big 12 transfer rule with a majority vote of the conference's faculty representatives on Sept. 30. Starting forward Lawrence Roberts of Houston-Lamar, Tex., chose Mississippi State over Arizona. He averaged 15.2 points and 10.4 rebounds to lead the Bears last season as a sophomore. Class 2003 Top 100 forward Tyrone Nelson of Hempstead, Tex., an incoming freshman, signed with Prairie View A&M.
Other players considering leaving Baylor include: John Lucas III 5-11 155 G JR-2L Houston-Bellaire, Tex (may consider Georgia, Rutgers, Rice and San Diego State); Tommy Swanson 6-9 215 F SO-1L Fort Worth-North Crowley, Tex; Harvey Thomas 6-8 210 F JR Fredericsburg, Va/Georgetown/NE Okla A&M; and R.T. Guinn 6-10 240 C SR-2L (10.4 pts 5.6 reb averages) Albuquerque-Valley, NM/New Mexico.
Georgetown has pledged Class 2004 guard Tyler Crawford of Staunton-Robert E. Lee, Va., who averaged 23.2 points as a junior.
Wisconsin-Green Bay has a commitment from Class 2004 guard Robby Springborn of Fond du Lac, Wis.
