Class 2003 center Darryl Watkins, a Top 100
prospect from Paterson-Paterson Catholic, NJ., has chosen Syracuse over Rutgers. Watkins, who
averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks as a senior, also drew
interest from North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Memphis, Seton Hall and
Villanova.
Watkins brings Syracuse's recruiting class to four Top 100 players,
including forward Terrence Roberts of Jersey
City, NJ; forward Demetris Nichols of
Barrington, RI; and guard Louie McCroskey of Bronx, NY.
Sophomore guard Patrick Sparks of Central
City-Muhlenberg North, Kty., who recently gained a release from Western
Kentucky following a coaching change, will walk-on at Kentucky. Sparks, who averaged 13.3
points and 5.9 assists for the Hilltoppers, will redshirt this upcoming
season and receive a scholarship his final two years of eligibility. He
canceled recruiting trips to Ohio State and Kansas, and had visited Oklahoma
State
Class 2004 7-0 center Seth Gorney of Vandalia-Butler, Ohio,
has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes over Ohio State.
Florida State leads the 2003 Top
Classes. Due to late signings and entries in the NBA Draft, final
