Guards commit to Fresno State, Purdue

Fresno State has signed Class 2003 guard Marcus West of Frederick, Md/San Jacinto CC, Cal., who averaged 16.2 points last season.

The Purdue Boilermakers have pledged Class 2004 guard Xavier Price of O'Fallon, Ill., over offers from Cincinnati and UNLV.

Hawaii signed Class 2003 forward Julian Sensley of Los Angeles CC, Cal.

Southern Mississippi signed Class 2003 forward J.R. Pittman of Washington, DC/Tyler CC, Tex.

Arkansas-Little Rock signed Class 2003 center Alexei Korolev of Kazan, Tatarstan/Collin County CC, Tex.

Top 100 Class 2004 forward Mike Williams of Camden-Central Wilcox, Ala., is near a decision between Texas (expected), Florida and Alabama. He averaged 26 points and 14 rebounds as a junior.

Glen Miles, a Top 100 Class 2004 guard from Birmingham-West Bend, Ala., is near a decision between Alabama (expected), Kentucky, Oklahoma and UAB.

Hartford signed three Class 2003 prospects, including forward Alex Zimnickas of Toronto, Ontario/Raleigh-Love Christian Center, NC; forward/guard Robert Taylor of Reston-South Lakes, Va; and guard Rich Baker of Frederick/Rockville-Montrose Christian, Md.

Maryland-Eastern Shore signed two Class 2003 prospects in forward Carl Pruitt and center Jason McKinnon, both from Kennedy-King CC, Ill.

Class 2003:


Over 1075 Class 2003 prospects have made commitments or signed scholarship papers. Signings and commitments by conferences. The early period ran Nov. 13-20 and the late period was Apr. 16-May 15. Although the period for signing letters-of-intent which binds both parties has ended, players may still sign letters-of-agreement, which binds the school and not the athlete.

Florida State leads the Post-Late Signing Period 2003 Top Classes. Final rankings in July.

2002 NBA Draft:
The NBA selected only one high school and a single junior college prospect: Center/forward Amare Stoudemire of Orlando-Cypress Creek, Fla., was taken 9th in the first round by Phoenix, while Portland took forward Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi CC, Miss., at No. 21 in the first round. The NBA passed on three other high school/prep school prospects and seven JC players (List).
