Georgetown loses one, picks up two

Starting sophomore guard Tony Bethel of Rockville-Montrose Christian, Md., will transfer from Georgetown to North Carolina State. He started all 34 games during 2002-03 for the Hoyas and averaged 10.8 points.

Georgetown has signed Class 2003 forward Sead Dizdarevic of Yugoslavia/North Highlands-Highlands, Cal. The Hoyas recently gained guard Rayshawn Reed of Inglewood, Cal.

Class 2004 center Todd Follmer of Santa Margarita, Cal., has committed to Washington over interest from Gonzaga, Stanford, California, Utah, New Mexico and Texas Tech.

Western Kentucky signed Class 2003 guard Antonio Hayes of Camilla, Ga/Hutchinson CC, Kan/Georgia Perimeter College, Ga.

Doug Penno, a Class 2003 guard from Kettering-Achbishop Alter, Ohio, will walk-on at Miami-Ohio with a promised scholarship in 2004.

UMass has signed two Class 2003 prospects, including guard/forward Maurice Maxwell of Phildelphia-Lutheran Christian Academy, Pa., and guard Chris Chadwick of Union, NJ/Globe CC, NY/Cecil CC, Md.

Rice signed Class 2003 guard Rodney Foster of Houston-Mayde Creek, Tex., who averaged 22 points as a senior.

James Parker, a Class 2003 guard from Chicago, Ill/Eastern Oklahoma CC, Okla., will play at Butler.

Class 2003:


Over 1060 Class 2003 prospects have made commitments or signed scholarship papers. Signings and commitments by conferences. The early period ran Nov. 13-20 and the late period was Apr. 16-May 15. Although the period for signing letters-of-intent which binds both parties has ended, players may still sign letters-of-agreement, which binds the school and not the athlete.

Arizona, Duke, Maryland, Illinois and Kansas lead the Early 2003 Top Classes.

2002 NBA Draft:
The NBA selected only one high school and a single junior college prospect: Center/forward Amare Stoudemire of Orlando-Cypress Creek, Fla., was taken 9th in the first round by Phoenix, while Portland took forward Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi CC, Miss., at No. 21 in the first round. The NBA passed on three other high school/prep school prospects and seven JC players (List).

2003 McDonald's All-American Game
LeBron James scored 27 points in leading the East over the West, 122-107, in the 26th annual McDonald's All-American high school basketball game in Cleveland, Ohio. McDonald's All-American Game stories/Rosters for 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000.
