Huskies, Bulldogs sign frontcourt help

Class 2003 forward Hakeem Rollins of Mesa, Ariz/Mesa CC, Ariz., has signed with Washington over Minnesota. Rollins, who averaged 24.8 points and 8.9 rebounds last season, also drew interest from UConn, Santa Barbara and Southern Illinois.

Georgia and new head coach Dennis Felton have signed Class 2003 forward Steve Newman of Orlando-The First Academy, Fla., who averaged 23.7 points and 12 rebounds last season.

Class 2004 forward/guard Robert Vaden of of Indianapolis-Pike, Ind., has decommitted from Purdue. Vaden, who chose the Boilermakers as a freshman, is now considering Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Kansas, Louisville, Florida and Kentucky.

Sophomore forward Ed Nelson of Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas, Fla., who is transfering from Georgia Tech, is considering UConn, Boston College and UMass.

Temple signed Class 2003 forward/guard Dion Dacons of Statesville, NC/Oak Hill Academy, Va. The Owls recently gained guard Dustin Salisbery of Lancaster-McCaskey, Pa., who averaged 22.3 points as a senior.

Class 2003 guards Frank Robinson of Sylmar, Cal/Maine Central Institute, Maine; and Japhet McNeil of Flushing-Christ the King, NY., are headed to East Carolina.

Class 2003 forward Austin Waggener of Culver City, Cal., picked Cal State-Northridge.

Sophomore center Mickey Michalec of Skiatook, Okla., will transfer from Texas Tech to Oral Roberts.

Lafayette has signed Class 2003 guard Mike Nolan of Pawling/Trinity-Pawling, NY/Milford Academy, Conn.

St. Joseph's has signed Class 2003 forward Arvydas Lidzius of Lithuania/Rockville-Montrose Christian, Md.

Murray State has signed Class 2003 guard Alan Chiles of Vincennes CC, Ind.

Indiana State signed Class 2003 forward Amani Daanish of Los Angeles-Pacific Hills Prep, Cal/Cowley CC, Kan., who averaged 9.7 points last season.

University of San Diego has signed Class 2003 forward/center Brice Vounang of Cameroon/Eastern Oklahoma CC, Okla.

Class 2003:


Over 960 Class 2003 prospects have made commitments or signed scholarship papers. Signings and commitments by conferences. The early period ran Nov. 13-20 and the late period is Apr. 16-May 15.

Arizona, Duke, Maryland, Illinois and Kansas lead the Early 2003 Top Classes.

The NBA selected only one high school and a single junior college prospect: Center/forward Amare Stoudemire of Orlando-Cypress Creek, Fla., was taken 9th in the first round by Phoenix, while Portland took forward Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi CC, Miss., at No. 21 in the first round. The NBA passed on three other high school/prep school prospects and seven JC players (List).

2003 McDonald's All-American Game
LeBron James scored 27 points in leading the East over the West, 122-107, in the 26th annual McDonald's All-American high school basketball game in Cleveland, Ohio. McDonald's All-American Game stories/Rosters for 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000.
