John David Booty of Shreveport-Evangel, La., considered the nation's top Class 2004 quarterback, will graduate early and join the USC Trojans this fall.
Booty, who committed to USC last month, needs one English credit to complete his high school education and bypass his senior season. He threw for more than 8,000 yards and over 80 touchdowns in two seasons at Evangel. He will start taking classes at USC in August, participate in fall drills and compete for the starting quarterback position.
The move was prompted when his father, Johnny Booty, who helped start the football program at Evangel, was fired from his ministry job at First Assembly of God. That move also ousted him from his job at the church's school, Evangel, where he was head of school and coached quarterbacks.
Washington has its second Class 2004 commitment in linebacker/defensive lineman Walter Winter of Kirkland-Juanita, Wash.
The Tennessee Vols have a soft commitment from Class 2004 defensive lineman Demonte Bolden of Chattanooga-Tyner Academy, Tenn.
Wyoming pledged Class 2004 running back Dennis Void of Bronx-Mt. St. Michael Academy, NY/Bridgton Academy, Maine, over Purdue and Mississippi State.
South Carolina pledged Class 2004 athlete Kendrick Lynch of Spartaburg-Dorman, SC., over interest in Clemson.
Michigan State has pledged Class 2004 receiver/defensive back Deon Curry of Beverly Hills-Detroit Country Day, Mich. The Spartans recently added Class 2003 receiver Samuel Champagne of Spartiates du Vieux, Montreal, for this upcoming season. Others showing interest were Stanford, Syracuse and Wake Forest.
