One of the nation's top guards in Class 2004, Arron Afflalo of Compton-Centennial, Cal., has committed to the UCLA Bruins and new coach Ben Howland. Among others recruiting Afflalo were Kansas, Oregon, Stanford, Louisville, Syracuse, Arizona State, Arizona, Missouri, DePaul and UConn.
Class 2003 guard Ian Young of Orlando-Lake Howell, Fla/Indian River CC, Fla/Des Moines Area CC, Ia., pledged to Auburn over New Mexico, Virginia Tech, Mississippi and Louisiana Tech.
Georgia and new coach Dennis Felton have released two Class 2003 signees, including Top 100 forward Mohamed Abukar of Escondido-Rancho Bernardo, Cal; and guard Jordan Howell of Madison, Ala.
Class 2003 center Shagari Alleyne, a Top 100 prospect from New York-Rice, NY., has decommitted from Rutgers. He is considering Kentucky, among others.
Bowling Green has a verbal from Class 2003 guard Austin Montgomery of Indianapolis-Perry Meridian, Ind.
Robert Morris has a verbal from Class 2003 guard Christopher Gooden of Eastfield CC, Tex.
Abdi Lidonde, a Class 2003 guard from Barrington-St. Andrew's, RI., pledged to Old Dominion over offers from George Mason, Manhattan and William & Mary.
New Mexico has a verbal from Class 2003 forward Alfred Neale of Muskogee, Okla/Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Among others showing interest were Wisconsin, Nebraskas, UTEP and Oral Roberts.
Sophmore forward Jamaal Williams of Corona-Centennial, Cal., is transfering from New Mexico to Washington.
Starting sophomore guard Jason Fontenet of Phoenix-St. Mary's, Ariz., is transfering from New Mexico State to Oregon State. The Beavers also pledged Class 2003 guard Angelo Tsagarakis of France/Petaluma-Casa Grande, Cal.
Class 2004 forward Alex Thompson of Ames, Ia., has pledged to the Iowa Hawkeyes over interest in Kansas, Wisconsin, Kansas State and Nebraska. He averaged 15.5 points last season. Forward J.R. Angle of Trafalgar-Indiana Creek, Ind., who committed to Iowa as a sophomore, averaged 24.6 points as a junior this past season.
Class 2003 center Yankuba Camara of Moberly CC, Mo., has been released from his signed letter by Miami-Florida.
