Highly regarded forward selects Pepperdine

Pepperdine has pledged touted Class 2003 forward Yakhouba Diawara of Dijon, France/Southern Idaho CC, Idaho, over interest from DePaul, Florida State, Minnesota and St. John's.

Class 2003 forward Michael Bell of Raleigh-Enoe, NC/North Carolina State/Palm Beach CC, Fla., has chosen Florida Atlantic over interest from Indiana, UAB, Utah, St. Joseph's and Virginia Commonwealth.

Texas A&M gained a commitment from Class 2003 guard Bobby Leach of Philadelphia-Bartram, Pa/Neosho County CC, Kan., over interest from Oklahoma State and Auburn.

Class 2003 guard Dwon Young of Jacksonville-Arlington Country Day, Fla., confirmed his intention to sign with Auburn. He had pledged last November. Class 2004 guard Frank Tolbert of Red Level, Ala., recently pledged to the Tigers.

Rhode Island has a commitment from Class 2003 guard Randy Brooks of Waterbury-Sacred Heart, Conn/Youngstown State/Kilgore CC, Tex.

Tulsa has a commitment from Class 2003 forward Guilherme Teichmann of Santa Cruz, Brazil/South Plains CC, Tex.

Liberty has a commitment from Class 2003 forward Lee Lightborne of Marshalltown CC, Ia.

Niagara gained Class 2003 guard Lorenzo Miles of Washington, DC-Gonzaga.

Class 2003 center/forward Nate Rede of Monterey Peninsula CC, Cal., pledged to Idaho State.

Kansas State has a pledge from Class 2003 forward/center Justin Williams of Milwaukee, Wis/Kankakee CC, Ill.

Butler gained Class 2003 forward Brian Ligon of St. Petersburg-Lakewood, Fla., who averaged 15 points and 12 rebounds as a senior.

Wisconsin-Green Bay has a pledge from Class 2003 guard Ryan Evanochko of Beaver Falls-Blackhawk, Pa.

UNLV has a pledge from Class 2003 forward Andy Hannan of Richfield-Holy Angels, Minn/Binghamton/Minneapolis Community and Tech, Minn.

Rice pledged Class 2003 center Greg Killings of Miami-Northwestern, Fla.

Toledo added Class 2003 forward Florentino Valencia of Chicago-Crane, Ill.

Class 2003:


Over 750 Class 2003 prospects have made commitments or signed scholarship papers. Signings and commitments by conferences. The early period ran Nov. 13-20 and the late period is Apr. 16-May 15.

Arizona, Duke, Maryland, Illinois and Kansas lead the Early 2003 Top Classes.

2003 McDonald's All-American Game
LeBron James scored 27 points in leading the East over the West, 122-107, in the 26th annual McDonald's All-American high school basketball game in Cleveland, Ohio.
