Gators, Hokies, Irish recieve top pledges

Top 150 defensive lineman Jarvis Moss of Denton-Ryan, Tex., is headed to the Florida Gators over Florida State, Texas and Miami-Florida. The Gators recently gained Marcus Thomas, a Top 150 defensive lineman from Jacksonville-Mandarin, Fla., who decommitted from Florida State; and defensive lineman Michael Hill of Smiths-Smiths Station, Ala., who decommitted from Alabama.

Miami -Florida pledged Top 150 defensive back Willie Cooper of St. Augustine, Fla., over Florida State and Florida.

Super Prospect linebacker Xavier Adibi of Hampton-Phoebus, Va., pledged to Virginia Tech over Tennessee. The Hokies recently gained receiver/defensive back Michael Hinton of Burlington-Cummings, NC/Hargrave MA, Va., and quarterback Cory Holt of Lexington, NC., who will first attend Hargrave MA, Va.

Chase Anastasio, a Super Prospect receiver/defensive back from Fairfax-Robinson, Va., chose Notre Dame over Ohio State, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Super Prospect defensive lineman Ryan Watson of River Ridge-John Curtis, La., committed to the Southern California Trojans. He also considered LSU, Miami-Florida and Colorado, among others.

Top 150 runing back LeRon McClain of Northport-Tuscaloosa County, Ala., has repledged to Alabama over Mississippi State. He had decommitted following the coaching change.

Super Prospect linebacker Lance Broadus of Woodland Hills-Taft, Cal., who decommitted from Nebraska, has pledged to the Oregon Ducks.

Super Prospect tight end Jamesley Jean of Tampa-Jefferson, Fla., is headed to North Carolina State over Auburn. Others were LSU, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

Top 150 junior college defensive back Lionel Green of Reedley CC, Cal., is set for North Carolina over Missouri, Tennessee, Nebraska, South Carolina and Texas Tech. The Heels also gained Super Prospect defensive/offensive lineman Isaiah Thomas of Winston-Salem/Carver, NC., over North Carolina State, according to his coach. Others were Tennessee, Wake Forest and Maryland.

The early football signing period for mid-year qualifiers was Dec. 18-Jan 15. The spring period is Feb. 5-Apr. 1. Search the list of Prospects/Commitments/Signings/By Conference.

LSU, Southern California, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Texas, Michigan, Notre Dame, Miami-Florida and North Carolina State lead the Early Top Classes.

Sophomore linebacker Anthony Schlegel of Highland Park, Tex., who recently left Air Force, committed to Ohio State over South Carolina and TCU.

Defensive lineman Amani Purcell of Pago, Pago, American Somona-Leone, chose Penn State over Utah, Colorado and Hawaii.

Super Prospect running back Laurence Maroney of St. Louis-Normandy, Mo., picked Minnesota over Missouri, Illinois and Wisconsin.

Michigan State pledged quarterback Stephen Reaves of Tampa-Plant, Fla., over Auburn, Louisville, Southern California, South Florida and Wake Forest; and runnning back/linebacker Maurice Smith of Warren-Howland, Ohio.

Purdue pledged offensive lineman Robbie Powell of Roanoke-Cave Spring, Va/Fork Union MA, Va., over Louisville and Ohio.

Indiana pledged defensive lineman Charles Emerson of Westport-Staples, Conn., and runnning back Benjarvis Green of New Orleans-St. Augustine, La.

Big 12:
Athlete Jermaine Moreira of Palm Beach-Dwyer, Fla., decommitted from Florida and pledged to Kansas State. The Wildcats also gained linebacker Marvin Simmons of Long Beach-Poly, Cal/Compton CC, Cal., who signed with Southern Cal as a Top 150 prep.

Baylor has pledges from defensive back Kyle Seals of Arlington-Sam Houston, Tex., who decommitted from Missouri; running back Brandon Whitaker of Edmond-Santa Fe, Okla; running back Brandon Garrett of Hooks, Tex., and offensive lineman John Mahaffey of Tyler-Lee, Tex., who decommitted from Arizona. The Bears recently gained a pledge from 355-pound offensive lineman Chris Evans of Dallas-Carter, Tex.

Super Prospect receiver Stephone Robinson of Denver-Mullen, Colo., committed to Color ado over San Diego State, Oregon and Arizona State. The Buffs recently gained offensive lineman Kharylake Martin of Dayton, Tex., over SMU; and defensive back Terry Washington of St. Louis-Cleveland, Mo., over interest from Indiana, Iowa and Kansas.

Kansas collected defensive lineman Phil Tuihalamaka of San Bernardino Valley CC, Cal., who decommitted from San Diego State; defensive back John Randle of Wichita-Southeast, Kan; defensive back Mark Brown of Tulsa-Washington, Okla; and defensive lineman/linebacker Zach Mims of Kingwood, Tex/Hinds CC, Miss.

Big East:
Pittsburgh has a pledge from defensive lineman Mike Hearns of Cleveland-Glenville, Ohio.

Rutgers has a pledge from runnning back Jamar Brittingham of Langhorne-Neshaminy/Kiski Prep, Pa.

SEC:
Linebacker Curtis Rice of Union, SC., committed to South Carolina. The Gamecocks recently gained Top 150 quarterback Syvelle Newton of Bennettsville-Marboro County, SC., and Ko Simpson, a defensive back from Rock Hill, SC.

Offensive lineman Terrance Houston of Nashville-Hillsboro, Tenn., and tight end Carlos Suggs of Memphis-Ridgeway, Tenn., picked Mississippi.

Vanderbilt pledged runnning back/linebacker Evandall Williams of Havana-Northside, Fla., who decommitted from Central Florida; and defensive back Bill Alford of Brunswick, Ga/Middle Georgia College.

MAC:
Toledo pledged runnning back Terrence Graves of Youngstown-Ursuline, Ohio.

WAC:
Offensive lineman DeJuan Gatling of Victorville-Silverado, Cal., committed to Hawaii.

Mountain West:
Defensive back Solomon Smart of Phoenix-Moon River, Ariz., decommitted from Arizona for UNLV.

Pac-10:
Athlete Jai Miller of Selma, Ala., over Alabama, Auburn and Georgia Tech; and defensive lineman Emmanuel Awofadeju of Roswell, Ga., over Notre Dame, Maryland, Tulane and Virginia; chose Stanford. The Cardinal also added offensive lineman David Long of Madison-Madison Central, Ala., over Mississippi, Mississippi State, Southern Mississippi and Memphis.

Receiver/defensive back Phil Ghilarducci of Palo Alto-Gunn, Cal., committed to Orego n State.

Defensive lineman Ray Tago of Long Beach-Poly, Cal/Long Beach CC, Cal., is headed to California. Tago, who originally signed with Southern California as a prep, rccently decommitted from Oregon.

The UCLA Bruins pledged tight end Jimmy Stephens of Torrance-Bishop Montgomery, Cal.
