Top DB, WR commit to Miami

Miami-Florida has pledged Top 150 defensive back Daryl Johnson and Super Prospect receiver Craig Davis, both from New Orleans-Perry Walker, La; and Super Prospect defensive lineman Vegas Franklin of Reserve-East St. John, La. Franklin picked the Canes over Florida State and Tennesssee. Johnson also considered Clemson, Florida, Georgia Tech and LSU, while Davis was being recruited by Auburn, Colorado, Florida and Tennessee. Miami-Florida recently gained defensive lineman Clifton Dickson of Miami-Northwestern, Fla., over Florida and Maryland.

Punter Geoffrey Price of Colleyville-Heritage, Tex., decommitted from Texas to play for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

One of the nation's top running backs, Maurice Drew of Concord-De La Salle, Cal., has chosen the UCLA Bruins over USC, California, Oregon and Colorado, among many others.

The Tennessee Vols have pledges from Top 150 offensive lineman Eric Young of Union, SC., over Clemson, South Carolina and Maryland; defensive back Brandon Johnson of Northeast Oklahoma CC, Okla., who decommitted from Kansas; and running back/receiver/defensive back Antonio Gaines of Covington, Tenn.

Top 150 defensive lineman Tim Washington of Sugar Land-Dulles, Tex., committed to LSU over Texas, Florida and Oklahoma. Among many others showing interest were Miami-Florida and Ohio State.

The early football signing period for mid-year qualifiers was Dec. 18-Jan 15. The spring period is Feb. 5-Apr. 1. Search the list of Prospects/Commitments/Signings/By Conference.

Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, USC, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, Miami-Florida and South Carolina head the Early Top Classes (Updated daily).

Michigan State pledged defensive back/running back Cole Corey of Tecumseh, Mich., over Western Michigan, Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan.

The Indiana Hoosiers pledged offensive lineman Brandon Joyce of St. Charles-Duchesne, Mo., and defensive lineman Luis Hernandez of Metairie-East Jefferson, La.

Receiver Dustin Keller of Lafayette-Jefferson, Ind., picked Purdue after decommitting from Toledo.

Minnesota pledged defensive back Samad Cain of Detroit-King, Mich.

Big 12:
Offensive lineman Kyle Thornton of Dallas-St. Mark's, Tex., picked Texas over Kansas State. His brother Kalen is a defensive lineman for the Longhorns.

Running back Taurence Rawls of Garland, Tex., decommitted from Kansas to Texas Tech. The Red Raiders recently gained Sione Havili, a 255-pound running back from Salt Lake City-East, Utah/El Camino CC, Cal., over Fresno State. Others were USC, Oregon State, Kentucky, BYU and Utah.

Baylor pledged tight end Michael Miller of Lake Charles-Barbe, La.

Big East:
Boston College has commitments from defensive lineman Danny Zepp of Louisville-St. Xavier, Kty., over Louisville; and defensive lineman/tight end Justin Bell of Alexandria-Mount Vernon, Va., over interest from Marshall, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

ACC:
Maryland had added offensive lineman Brandon Nixon of Pottstown, Pa., over Penn State, West Virginia and North Carolina State.

Receiver/defensive back Robert Reese of Temple, Ga., and tight end Zach Green of Conyers-Salem, Ga., are set for Clemson.

Wake Forest pledged defensive lineman Matt Robinson of Cedartown, Ga.

Duke gained a verbal from Super Prospect running back Aaron Fryer of Tampa-Jesuit, Fla. over interest from South Florida, Boston College, Pittsburgh and Vanderbilt.

SEC:
Offensive lineman Carlton Medder of Groveland-South Lakes, Fla., who recently decommitted from Georgia, has pledged to the Florida Gators. Also headed for the Gators is defensive lineman Johnny Dingle of Miami-Washington, Fla., ovr Auburn, LSU, South Florida and West Virginia. The Gators recently gained Top 150 junior college defensive back Reynaldo Hill of Fort Lauderdale, Fla/Dodge City CC, Kan., over Nebraska, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Kansas State.

South Carolina has pledges from offensive lineman William Brown of Boonville-Starmount, NC., who decommitted from East Carolina; and defensive lineman Josh Johnson of Gibsonton-East Bay, Fla., over UConn, Iowa State, Michigan State and South Florida. The Gamecocks recently gained recommitments from Super Prospect receiver Noah Whiteside of Greenville, SC., who also considered Clemson, Maryland and Pittsburgh; and touted defensive lineman Charles Silas of Swainsboro, Ga/Georgia Military Academy, Ga., who decommitted from Arkansas.

Arkansas pledged defensive lineman Jeremy Harrell of Texarkana, Tex., over Arizona State, Nebraska, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech; athlete Willie Hordge of Houston-Forest Brook, Tex., over Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Alabama and Tennesee; and defensive back/receiver Brannon Kidd of Crossett, Ark., over Arkansas State and Mississippi.

Mississippi pledged defensive back Danny Bell of Jacksonville-Andrew Jackson, Fla. The Rebels recently gained defensive back/receiver Frank Clayton of Dunwoody, Ga., over Louisville and Marshall; and defensive back/receiver Edwin Gelin of Hialeah, Fla., over Kentucky, North Carolina State and Rutgers.

Alabama gained tight end Dezmond Sherrod of Caledonia, Miss., over Mississippi and Mississippi State. The Tide recently added defensive back/running back Tyrone Prothro of Heflin-Cleburne County, Ala.

Defensive back Adrian Griffin of LaGrange, Ga., over South Carolina, Arkansas, Maryland and North Carolina; running back Jason Jude of Athens, Ala., who decommitted from Auburn; and defensive back Ricky Wright of Batesville-South Panola, Miss., are headed to Mississippi State, Jude was also being recruited by Louisville, Memphis, North Carolina State, Southern Mississippi and Wisconsin. Wright chose the Bulldogs over Mississippi and West Virginia.

Conf-USA:
Louisville has commitments from defensive lineman Josh Williams of Cedartown, Ga., and tight end Thomas Boyce of Dacula, Ga.

Tulane has a commitment from defensive lineman Billy Harrison of Pensacola-Catholic, Fla., over South Florida.

MAC:
Ball State pledged quarterback Casey Gillen of Trafalgar-Indian Creek, Ind.

Sun Belt:
Louisiana-Monroe pledged tight end Glen Sins of Metairie-East Jefferson, La., over interest from Indiana, Mississippi, Baylor and Middle Tennessee State.

WAC:
Rice pledged linebackers Buck Casson of Pontiac, Ill., over Kansas State, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan; and Landon Johnson of Kennedale, Tex., over interest from Stanford.

SMU pledged defensive lineman Charlie Berry of Highland Park, Tex., over Navy.

Mountain West:
Utah added quarterback/athlete Marcus Johnson of Los Angeles-Locke, Cal., over UNLV.

UNLV added defensive back Willie Tagoai of Vista, Cal/Palomar CC, Cal; offensive lineman Tim Goins of Madison-Jones, Ala; and tight end Phil Cosenza of Grass Valley-Nevada Union, Cal.

Pac-10:
Offensive lineman Pat So'oalo of Kailua, Hawaii, committed to Oregon. The Ducks recently gained linebacker Marcus Miller of Cerritos CC, Cal., over interest from Kansas State, LSU, Marshall and North Carolina; and receiver Marcus Maxwell of Diabolo Valley CC, Cal.

Stanford has a commitment from defensive back Brandon Harrison of Baton Rouge-Catholic, La.

Arizona State has resigned linebacker DeAndre Johnson of Phoenix-South Mountain, Ariz., who chose the Sun Devils in Class 2002, but did not qualify; and pledged offensive lineman Julius Orieukwu of Houston-Bellaire, Tex., over interest from Texas Tech, Arizona, TCU and Central Florida.

Defensive back/running back Brandon Myles of Carson, Cal., chose California.

Washington has a commitment from receiver/defensive back Quintin Daniels of Los Angeles-Loyola, Cal., over interest from Arizona State, California, Stanford, Notre Dame and UCLA.
