Vols, Aztecs score big with latest commitments

The Tennessee Vols have pledged Top 150 linebacker Daniel Brooks of Jackson-Central Merry, Tenn., over Alabama and Mississippi, among many others. Also headed for the Vols is teammate Bo Hardegree, a 6-5 quarterback who passed for 1950 yards and 23 touchdowns last season. Tennessee recently gained defensive back Corey Campbell of Spring-Westfield, Tex., over Arizona, Arkansas and Iowa State.

In a huge recruiting triumph for San Diego State, Top 150 running back Lynell Hamilton of Stockton-Edison, Cal., committed to the Aztecs over Oregon. Hamilton, who had over 30 offers, earlier eliminated Michigan and Colorado. The Aztecs also gained defensive lineman Eugene Brown of Gardena-Junipero Serra, Cal., who has transferred from Syracuse.

The early football signing period for mid-year qualifiers was Dec. 18-Jan 15. The spring period is Feb. 5-Apr. 1. Search the list of Prospects/Commitments/Signings/By Conference.

Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, USC, Georgia, Michigan, Miami-Florida, South Carolina, Notre Dame and Florida head the Early Top Classes (Updated daily).

Big Ten:
Defensive lineman Ray Edwards of Cincinnati-Woodward, Ohio, has decommitted from Purdue and is still considering the Boilermakers, Tennessee and South Carolina. Purdue recently gained receiver/tight end Kyle Ingraham, a 6-9 prospect from San Antonio-Clark, Tex; and defensive lineman Jamaal Jones of Oradell-Bergen Catholic NJ.

Receiver Tonjua Jones of Southfield-Lathrup, Mich., is set for Northwestern.

Big 12:
Defensive lineman Joseph Bryant of Jasper, Tex., has chosen Texas A&M. The Aggies recently added offensive lineman Corey Clark of Spring Branch-Smithson Valley, Tex., who decommitted from Colorado.

Tight end/defensive lineman Rashaad Norwood of Kansas City-Schlagle, Kan., decommitted from Kansas for Kansas State.

Baylor pledged receiver Quentin Holman of Lufkin, Tex., and defensive back Braelon Davis of Dallas-Carter, Tex., over New Mexico and TCU.

Defensive backs Donald Defrand of Fort Lauderdale, Fla/Dodge City CC, Kan., and Titus Brothers of Converse-Judson, Tex., chose Nebraska. The Huskers recently added tight end J.B. Phillips of Colleyville-Heritage, Tex., over Kansas State and Oklahoma State; and Super Prospect linebacker Lance Broadus of Woodland Hills-Taft, Cal., over Arizona, Oklahoma, Oregon and San Diego State.

Receiver Ricky Stokes of Georgia Military Academy, Ga., and defensive lineman Chuck Jones of Long Beach-Poly, Cal/Pasadena CC, Cal., are headed to Kansas.

Tight end/linebacker Brandon Tinlin of San Diego-Mission Bay, Cal; linebacker Nick Moore of Arlington, Tex., who decommitted from Georgia Tech; and defensive back Dominique Flower of St. Petersburg-Northeast, Fla., committed to Iowa State.

Big East:
Offensive lineman Tom Anevski of Cincinnati-Elder, Ohio, chose Boston College over Northwestern and Vanderbilt. The Eagles recently gained running back Lennox Whitworth of Milton-Catholic Memorial, Mass., over Vanderbilt; offensive lineman Kevin Sheridan of Cleveland-St. Ignatius, Ohio; defensive back James Silva of East Providence, RI., and Dorien Bryant, a Top 150 receiver/defensive back from Swedesboro-Kingsway Regional NJ.

Quarterback Matt Hale of Windsor, Ontario-W.F. Herman, is headed to Syracuse over interest from Michigan State and Central Florida. The Orange recently added defensive lineman Eric Ball of Hamden, Conn., over Boston College, Iowa, UConn, Michigan State and Penn State; linebacker Jameel McClain of Philadelphia-George Washington, Pa., over Michigan State, West Virginia and Temple; and receiver Kyle Bell of Philadelphia-George Washington, Pa/Valley Forge MA, Pa.

ACC:
Wake Forest pledged defensive back Johnny Edwards of Fayetteville-Starrs Mill, Ga., who decommitted from Vanderbilt.

Clemson has a committment from Super Prospect defensive back/linebacker Maurice Nelson of Sumter-Crestwood, SC., over Georgia, Maryland and South Carolina. The Tigers recently gained Super Prospect running back/athlete Tramaine Billie of Columbia-Dreher, SC., who decommitted from South Carolina; and offensive/defensive lineman Chris McDuffie of Danville, Va/Hargrave MA, Va., over Arkansas and Florida State.

Defensive lineman Dre Moore of Charlotte-Independence, NC., has chosen Maryland over interest from Duke, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. The Terps recently gained one of the nation's top linebacker prospects, Wesley Jefferson of Brandywine-Gwynn Park, Md., over Miami-Florida and Ohio State, among 50 other offers; and defensive lineman Omar Savage of Piscataway, NJ., over Rutgers and Duke.

SEC:
Defensive linemen Charles Silas and Titus Peebles, both from Swainsboro, Ga/Georgia Military Academy, Ga., picked Arkansas. Silas decommitted from South Carolina. The Razorbacks recently gained defensive back Kevin Woods of Memphis-Fairley, Tenn., and defensive lineman Zarnell Fitch of Oklahoma City-Spencer, Okla/Navarro CC, Tex.

Alabama gained linebacker Demarcus Waldrop of Pinson-Pinson Valley, Ala.

Mississippi pledged defensive back/receiver Edwin Gelin of Hialeah, Fla., over Kentucky, North Carolina State and Rutgers. The Rebels recently added Super Prospect running back Alan Abrams of Apopka, Fla., over South Alabama, Purdue and South Carolina, among others; and defensive back/receiver Kareem Moore of Okolona, Miss., over Mississippi State and Nebraska.

Mississippi State has pledged tight end Linzy Patterson of Armory, Miss; and receiver Jason Husband of Jackson-Hill, Miss. The Bulldogs recently gained defensive lineman Corey Clark of Collins, Miss; defensive back Jeramie Johnson of Atlanta-Washington, Ga; and defensive lineman Drew Powell of Clewiston, Fla., over Colorado State, Iowa State and Central Florida.

Conf-USA:
UAB pledged defensive back Carnell Williams of Wenonah, Ala; offensive lineman JaMarius Dismuke of Parker, Ala; running back Durrell Fuqua of Russellville, Ala; and quarterback Jake Tompkins of Russellville, Ala.

MAC:
Toledo has a verbal from defensive back Markeys Scott of Massillon-Washington, Ohio.

Buffalo pledged defensive back Laron Haymore of St. Louis-Cardinal Ritter, Mo.

Defensive lineman/tight end Dennis King of Daytona Beach-Mainland, Fla., and tight end/defensive lineman Mike Merritt of Riviera Beach-Suncoast, Fla., picked Central Florida.

Sun Belt:
Louisiana-Lafayette has a verbal from quarterback Devin Williams of Arlington-Sam Houston, Tex.

Arkansas State pledged linebacker Josh Williams of China/Hardin-Jefferson, Tex.

WAC:
SMU has a verbal from defensive back Cedrick Dorsey of New Boston, Tex.

Receiver Donnie Johnson of Dallas-Skyline, Tex., chose Tulsa.

Hawaii pledged offensive lineman Jeremy Inferrera of Honolulu-St Louis, Hawaii. The Warriors recently added linebacker Timo Paepule of Honolulu-St Louis, Hawaii; punter Tim Wright of Southwest Mississippi CC, Miss; and receiver Lenny Boatner of Louisville-Winston Academy, Miss.

Rice pledged offensive lineman Lute Barber of Lubbock-Coronado, Tex; defensive lineman Courtney Gordon of Gladewater, Tex; quarterback Joel Armstrong of Longview, Tex., over TCU and SMU; and defensive back/receiver Justin Abt of San Antonio-Clark, Tex.

Mountain West:
Wyoming has its 12th verbal in defensive back Derrick Martin of Denver-Thomas Jefferson, Colo.

Pac-10:
Washington State pledged quarterback Alex Brink of Eugene-Sheldon, Ore., who decommitted from Boise State.

Oregon State has a verbal from offensive lineman Patick Wu of Plano, Tex.

Defensive lineman Ray Tago of Long Beach CC, Cal., decommitted from Oregon. The Ducks recently added defensive lineman Josh Tauanu'u of Long Beach-Poly, Cal., and defensive back Rodney Woods of Fresno CC, Cal., who decommitted from California.
