Olsen, Zbikowski commit to ND

The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame have gained two Top 150 commitments in tight end Greg Olsen of Wayne-Wayne Hills, NJ., over Miami-Florida; and defensive back Tom Zbikowski of Buffalo Grove, Ill., over Nebraska and Iowa. Olsen, the younger brother of current Notre Dame quarterback Chris Olsen, had over 80 offers.

Sam Baker, a Top 150 offensive lineman from Tustin, Cal., is headed to the USC Trojans over Florida, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Washington and UCLA.

Central Florida pledged Super Prospect quarterback Steven Moffett of Winter Park, Fla., over Georgia, South Carolina, Southern Mississippi, Tennessee and Florida. UCF recently added defensive lineman Josh Stephens of Port Arthur, Tex/Trinity Valley CC, Tex.

Super Prospect defensive lineman Brad Girtman of Houston-Memorial, Tex., pledged to Oklahoma State over Oklahoma, LSU, Florida, Nebraska, Tennessee and Texas Tech. He had earlier decommitted from the Sooners. Also headed for the Cowboys is defensive lineman Marque Fountain of Fort Bend-Hightower, Tex., over Arizona, Colorado State, Iowa State, Kansas and Texas Tech.

Rob Lewis, a Super Prospect linebacker/defensive lineman from Van Nuys-Montclair, Cal., chose Washington. He earlier decommitted from USC.

The early football signing period for mid-year qualifiers was Dec. 18-Jan 15. The spring period is Feb. 5-Apr. 1. Search the list of Prospects/Commitments/Signings/By Conference.

Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, USC, Georgia, Michigan, Miami-Florida, South Carolina, Notre Dame and Florida head the Early Top Classes.

Defensive lineman Malcolm Wooldridge of Boca Raton, Fla/Hargrave MA, Va/USC/Harper CC, Ill., denies reports of a verbal to Indiana, including quotes from his coach.

Big 12:
Running back Alex Woodley of Mesquite, Tex., committed to Missouri over Oklahoma State. Others were Indiana, Iowa State and Texas Tech. The Tigers recently gained tight end/defensive lineman Xzavie Jackson of Vacaville-Wood, Cal/Wichita-Wichita Heights, Kan.

Kansas State has added defensive lineman Alphonso Moran of Boca Raton, Fla., over Indiana; and offensive lineman Travis Triplett of st. Louis, Mo/Dodge City CC, Kan., over Clemson, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Purdue, South Carolina and Texas Tech.

Big East:
Defensive back Brad Mueller of Mars, Pa., pledged to Boston College over Wisconsin. BC recently gained quarterback Paul Peterson of Snow CC, Utah, over interest from California, Indiana, Kansas, Utah and Utah State. He passed for 2982 yards and 35 touchdowns last season.

ACC:
North Carolina has a commitment from defensive back LaBrose Hedgemon of Hoover, Ala., over interest from Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado and Notre Dame.

Duke gained linebacker Alexander Williams of Dublin-West Laurens, Ga., and defensive back Jeramy Edwards of Jackson-Jackson Memorial, NJ., over interest from Purdue, Maryland and Indiana.

Conf-USA:
Quarterback Eddie Miller of Venice, Cal., is set for Louisville over Mississippi State, Cincinnati and Hawaii.

Receiver/defensive back Isreal Route of Stone Mountain-Stephenson, Ga., pledged to Tulane.

WAC:
Linebacker Avery Cleveland of Austin-LBJ, Tex., who expected to pick SMU, is still considering TCU, SMU and Colorado.

Mountain West:
Defensive lineman Blake Smith of Tulsa-Union, Okla., recommitted to Colorado State. He had decommitted from the Rams to visit UCLA, but the Bruins did not offer. Redshirt sophomore running back Marcus Houston of Denver-Thomas Jefferson, Colo., has been released from scholarship by Colorado at his request. Hampered by injuries for three seasons, he is considering Colorado State.

Wyoming has a commitment from quarterback Zach Weidenaar of Bozeman, Mont.

Pac-10:
Defensive/offensive lineman Curtis Coker of Las Vegas-Desert Pines, Nev., and defensive lineman Jeff Vanorsow of Henderson-Foothill, Nev., committed to Oregon State.

A recruiting saga, defensive lineman Bruce Davis of League City-Clear Creek, Tex., now lists the Bruins and Colorado after saying he was headed for UCLA following an official visit. Davis earlier decommitted from Texas, UCLA and Arkansas. The Bruins recently gained defensive lineman/linebacker Aaron Whittington of St. Louis-Hazelwood East, Mo. Defensive lineman Blake Smith of Tulsa-Union, Okla., recommitted to Colorado State. He had decommitted from the Rams to visit UCLA, but the Bruins did not offer.

Stanford added kicker/punter Jay Ottovegio of Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas, Fla., and defensive lineman Mike Macellari of South Bend-Clay, Ind. Macellari picked Stanford over Purdue.
