The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame have gained two Top 150 commitments in tight end Greg Olsen of Wayne-Wayne Hills, NJ., over Miami-Florida; and defensive back Tom Zbikowski of Buffalo Grove, Ill., over Nebraska and Iowa. Olsen, the younger brother of current Notre Dame quarterback Chris Olsen, had over 80 offers.
Sam Baker, a Top 150 offensive lineman from Tustin, Cal., is headed to the USC Trojans over Florida, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Washington and UCLA.
Central Florida pledged Super Prospect quarterback Steven Moffett of Winter Park, Fla., over Georgia, South Carolina, Southern Mississippi, Tennessee and Florida. UCF recently added defensive lineman Josh Stephens of Port Arthur, Tex/Trinity Valley CC, Tex. Super Prospect defensive lineman Brad Girtman of Houston-Memorial, Tex., pledged to Oklahoma State over Oklahoma, LSU, Florida, Nebraska, Tennessee and Texas Tech. He had earlier decommitted from the Sooners. Also headed for the Cowboys is defensive lineman Marque Fountain of Fort Bend-Hightower, Tex., over Arizona, Colorado State, Iowa State, Kansas and Texas Tech.
Rob Lewis, a Super Prospect linebacker/defensive lineman from Van Nuys-Montclair, Cal., chose Washington. He earlier decommitted from USC.
The early football signing period for mid-year qualifiers was Dec. 18-Jan 15. The spring period is Feb. 5-Apr. 1. Search the list of Prospects/Commitments/Signings/By Conference. A recruiting saga, defensive lineman Bruce Davis of League City-Clear Creek, Tex., now lists the Bruins and Colorado after saying he was headed for UCLA following an official visit. Davis earlier decommitted from Texas, UCLA and Arkansas. The Bruins recently gained defensive lineman/linebacker Aaron Whittington of St. Louis-Hazelwood East, Mo. Defensive lineman Blake Smith of Tulsa-Union, Okla., recommitted to Colorado State. He had decommitted from the Rams to visit UCLA, but the Bruins did not offer.
Stanford added kicker/punter Jay Ottovegio of Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas, Fla., and defensive lineman Mike Macellari of South Bend-Clay, Ind. Macellari picked Stanford over Purdue.
