Top defensive back selects Michigan

Top 150 defensive back Leon Hall of Vista, Cal., is headed to Michigan over Colorado, Oregon, Washington, UCLA, USC and Arizona, among many others.

The Wolverines recently gained Top 150 quarterback Clayton Richard of Lafayette-McCutcheon, Ind., over Colorado, Illinois, Purdue and UCLA; and offensive lineman Pat Sharrow of Monroe, Mich., over Purdue and Michigan State.

Super Prospect tight end Garret Bushong of Ionia, Mich., decommitted from Michigan State for Purdue. He also considered Illinois, Pittsburgh, Florida and Nebraska, among others.

Top 150 junior college defensive back Donte Nicholson of Pomona-Diamond Bar, Cal/Mt. San Antonio CC, Cal., has continued his recruiting saga with a commitment to Oklahoma. He earlier pledged to Washington, USC and Arizona State, but decommitted from all three.

The early football signing period for mid-year qualifiers is Dec. 18-Jan 15. The spring period is Feb. 5-Apr. 1.

Oklahoma, LSU, Texas A&M, Texas, Notre Dame and Georgia head the Early Top Classes. Commitments by conferences.

Big Ten:
Iowa has a verbal from defensive lineman George Eshareturi of Bronx-Mt. St. Michael Academy, NY.

Defensive back Will Meyers of Chesterfield-Parkway West, Mo., verballed to Indiana over Kansas, Iowa State and Miami-Ohio. The Hoosiers recently added defensive back Fernandez McDowell of Metairie-East Jefferson, La., over Colorado, Middle Tennessee State and West Virginia.

Big 12:
Linebacker James Alford of Metairie-East Jefferson, La., decommitted from Colorado. He is now considering Clemson, Florida, Tennessee, Colorado and West Virginia, among others.

Kansas has a verbal from offensive lineman Johnny Urrutia of Pico Rivera-El Rancho, Cal/Mt. San Antonio CC, Cal., over San Diego State, UNLV, Fresno State, Nw Mexico State and Oregon.

Baylor added defensive lineman Montez Murphy of Coffeyville CC, Kan., who decommitted from Kentucky following the coaching change.

Big East:
Pittsburgh pledged receiver Kenard Cox and defensive back Jameel Brady, both from Miami-Killian, Fla.

ACC:
Maryland pledged running back/defensive back Keon Lattimore of Baltimore-Mt. St. Joseph, Md. He is the brother of NFL Baltimore star Ray Lewis.

SEC:
Receiver Donovan Morgan of New Orleans-Reed, La/Pearl River CC, Miss., picked Mississippi over interest from Alabama, Texas A&M, Temple and Middle Tennessee State. The Rebels recently gained defensive back Iroko Ayodele of Gulfport-Harrison Central, Miss/Gulf Coast CC, Miss., over Kentucky and Kent State.

Mississippi State gained offensive lineman Royce Blackledge of Laurel-Northeast Jones, Miss., over Mississippi, Southern Mississippi, Memphis and West Virginia.

Tennessee has a verbal from defensive back Chris Russell of Nashville-Hillsboro, Tenn., over Arkansas, Mississippi, Auburn, Florida and Indiana.

Vanderbilt pledged offensive lineman Bryan Stamper of Orlando-Lake Highland, Fla. over interest from Wake Forest and Rutgers.

Conf-USA:
Linebacker Sam Crawford of Highland CC, Kan., decommitted from Houston following the coaching change.

Tulane added defensive linemen Justin Wade of Ellenwood-Cedar Grove, Ga., C.J. Davis of Mansfield, La., and Tremell Jack of Jeanerette, La., plus receiver Fred Smith of Destrehan, La.

MAC:
Marshall has commitments from offensive lineman Nate Howard of Huntington-Spring Valley, WVa; receiver Tremel Guillory of Topeka, Kan/Butler County CC, Kan; receiver Clarence Stanfield of Sacramento CC, Cal; linebacker Matt Couch of Hamilton-Ross, Ohio, and defensive back Travis Noel of Etobicoke-Henry Carr, Ont.

Ohio has a commitment from offensive lineman Matt Miller of Mechanicsville-Atlee, Va.

Akron pledged quarterback John Ferguson of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, over offers from Iowa and Cincinnati.

WAC:
Linebacker/running back Lance Luedeker of China Spring, Tex., picked Rice.

Pac-10:
California pledged linebacker Greg Van Hoeson of Saratoga, Cal. The Bears recently gained running back Kenneth Frank of Cerritos, Cal.

UCLA pledged running back/long snapper Joe Tomasello of Fresno-Bullard, Ca/Fresno CC, Cal.
