C/F Wayne Marshall selects Temple

Some last-minute shopping during basketball's early signing period:

Touted center/forward Wayne Marshall of Philadelphia-Martin Luther King, Pa., is headed to Temple over LaSalle. Still only 16, he averaged 13 points and 12 rebounds as a junior. The Owls previously landed highly-regarded point guard Mario Taybron from Norfolk-Ryan Academy, Va.

Louisiana Tech signed Super Prospect forward Paul Millsap of Grambling, La.

Forward Emmanuel Willis of Mendenhall, Tex., decommitted from Mississippi and signed with Southern Mississippi.

Over 600 prospects have made verbal commitments or signed scholarship papers. The early period runs Nov. 13-20 and the late period from Apr. 16-May 15. Letters signed on Nov. 20 will still be received by colleges over the next few days.

Louisville, Maryland, Illinois, Kansas and Arizona lead the Early 2003 Top Classes. Remaining Top 100 Prospects (4): C-Darryl Watkins; F-Brandon Bass, Linas Kleiza; G-LeBron James.

Mississippi has signed guard Jara Doyne of Little Rock-Mills, Ark.

Kansas State signed guard Lance Harris of Columbia-Hickman, Mo., over Iowa.

Guard J.R. Pinnock of Virginia Beach-Coastal Christian, Va., has decommitted from Wichita State and plans to select a school next spring.

Auburn has a verbal from guard Dwan Youmans of Jacksonville-Arlington Country Day, Fla., who plans to wait until spring before signing.

Guard Mike O'Donnell of Largo, Fla., has decommitted from Florida after the Gators wanted him to first attend prep schoo.

Class 2004 center Sam Rayburn of Portland-Sunset, Ore., has committed to California over interest in Marquette and Utah.

Morehead State signed center Kevin McDonald of Harrison, Ohio, and guard Josh Reed of East Liverpool, Ohio.

Bucknell has forwards Donald Brown of Oakdale-St. Thomas More, Conn., and John Clark of Tulsa-Cascia Hall, Okla.

New Orleans signed center Ben Elias of Ocala-Christian Shores Academy, Fla., and forward Nate Parker of Odessa CC, Tex.

Guard Matt Coward of Richmond-Hermitage, Va., chose VMI.

University of San Diego signed forward Brandon Gay of Missouri City, Tex/SoMiss/Seward CC, Kan.

Rider signed forward/guard Perrin Johnson of Claremont, Cal.

Fordham signed 7-1 center Lucasz Obrutz of Poland/Bridgton Academy, Maine.

Santa Clara signed Canadian Junior National Team center Sean Denison of Nelson-L.V. Rogers, BC.

Oklahoma State signed Top 100 junior college center/forward Tremaine Fuqua of Skyline CC, Cal.

Signees from Chicago-Whitney Young, Ill: Guard Andre Knox to Loyola-Chicago; forward Dwayne Curtis with Auburn and forward Dewitt Scott to Maryland-Eastern Shore.
