Alleyne chooses Rutgers over Kentucky

In a huge recruiting triumph for the Scarlet Knights, Top 100 center Shagari Alleyne, a 7-3 prospect from New York-Rice, NY., has committed to Rutgers over Kentucky.

Alleyne, who averaged 15 points and eight rebounds last season, had taken official trips to Rutgers, Pepperdine, St. John's, Louisville and Kentucky.

The Scarlet Knights recently gained Top 100 guards Marquis Webb of Paterson-Paterson Catholic, NJ., and Quincy Douby of St. Thomas More School, Conn.

In other basketball news, a Top 100 guard has chosen Iowa State, while outstanding fowards have committed to Texas and Cincinnati.

Top 100 guard Will Blalock of Fitchburg-Notre Dame Prep, Mass., committed to the Iowa State Cyclones over George Washington.

Forward Anthony Tucker of Raleigh-Enloe, NC., committed to the Texas Longhorns. Tucker, who averaged 25 points and 17 rebounds as a junior, also considered Clemson, West Virginia, Richmond and UNC-Greensboro.

Touted forward Mike Pilgrim of Cincinnati-Purcell Marian, Ohio/Wolfeboro-Brewster Academy, NH., has announced for Cincinnati over Seton Hall. Pilgrim, who averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds last season, is a cousin of former Syracuse star and current Seton Hall Head Coach Louie Orr.

Forward Marcus Heard of Springfield-Southeast, Ill., is near a decision between DePaul and Boston College. Top 100 center Wesley Green of Eustis, Fla., is visited DePaul this past weekend.

Louisville, Maryland, Kansas and Arizona lead the Early 2003 Top Classes.

Forward Jonathan Williams of St. Cloud-Apollo, Minn., has chosen St. John's over Minnesota. He is expected to attend prep school and join the Red Storm in the fall of 2004.

Marist has a commitment from forward Kerry Parks of Houston-Cypress Creek, Tex.

Harvard pledged guard Jim Goffredo of LaCresenta-Crescenta Valley, Cal.

UT-Chattanooga has a verbal from forward Mindaugas Katelynas of Atytus, Lithuania/Eastern Utah CC, Utah.

Center/forward Rashaun Bryant of Rome-Coosa, Ga., picked Colorado.

Center Andrew Atman of Upper St. Clair, Pa., committed to Buffalo.

UAB has commitments from twin guards Donell Taylor and Ronell Taylor of Montgomery-Lanier, Ala/Okaloosa-Walton CC, Fla.
