Wingate picks Tennessee over Clemson

Top 100 center/forward Major Wingate of Suwanee-North Gwinnett, Ga., has chosen the Tennessee Vols over Clemson.

Wingate, who averaged 15 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks as a junior, also considered South Carolina, Alabama, Maryland and Georgia.

The Vols earlier gained touted guard Dane Bradshaw of Memphis-White Station, Tenn., and will have walk-on redshirt transfers forward/guard Scooter McFadgon of Memphis, Tenn./Memphis; and forward Jamere Hendrix of Covington, Ga./Clemson; eligible for Class 2003 scholarships.

Top 100 guard Taurean Minor of Houston-Washington, Texas, chose LSU over Oklahoma, Cincinnati, Texas, Arizona, UConn, Florida State and UNLV, among many others. He averaged 30 points as a junior.

Former North Carolina guard Brian Morrison of Redmond-Lake Washington, Wash., who had announced plans to transfer to UCLA, now intends to enroll at Washington.

Memphis, Mississippi State, California, Louisville, Michigan State, Michigan, Florida, Syracuse, Illinois and Oklahoma lead the Early Top Classes.

Forward/center Mitch Platt of Henderson-Green Valley, Nev., committed to the Oregon Ducks over interest in Texas Tech, Arizona State, Utah and San Diego State.

Arizona State has a pledge from forward Chris Low of Tyler-Bishop Gorman, Texas, over Indiana, SMU and TCU. Virginia and Western Kentucky were also involved.

Forward/center Mike Travis of San Francisco-Thurgood Marshall, Calif./CC of San Francisco, Calif., committed to Texas Tech. The Red Raiders recently gained forward DeVonne Giles of Newark-Shabazz, N.J./Seward County CC, Kan., over Kansas State and Arkansas.

Florida State has a pledge from forward Antonio Griffin of Tempe-McClintock, Ariz./Compton-Centennial, Calif./Los Angeles City College, Calif./Scottsdale CC, Ariz., over Washington State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Long Beach State and Iowa.

Forward Josh Lawrence of Ashton, Ill., picked Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Liberty has a pledge from guard Larry Blair of Camden-Military Academy, S.C.

Cal State-Sacramento has a commitment from forward Jason Gilzene of Los Angeles-Fairfax, Calif.

LaSalle pledged forward Mike St. John of Weston-Rivers School, Mass.

Guard Cameron Gray of Chabot CC, Calif., pledged to Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo.

Creighton has pledged forward Anthony Tolliver of Springfield-Kickapoo, Mo., over interest in Southwest Missouri State, West Virginia, Chicago-Loyola and Boston College.

Rice has a pledge from guard Jason Okrzesik of Oak Park-Fenwick, Ill. The Owls recently gained forward/guard Morris Almond of Powder Springs-McEachern, Ga., over Indiana, Virginia and Tulane.

Long Beach State pledged forward Travon Free of Compton-Dominguez, Calif.

Lamar has a reported pledge from guard Kevin Kloostra of Chatham-McGregor, Ontario.

St. Mary's has a pledge from forward Brett Collins of Phoenix-Mountain Pointe, Ariz.

Evansville has pledged forward Justin Petty of Indianapolis-Perry Meridian, Ind., over Ball State and Holy Cross. The Aces recently signed guard Andre Burton of Memphis-Kirby, Tenn./Kankakee CC, Ill., for this upcoming season. He averaged 16 points last season.

Yale pledged forward Sam Kaplan of Worcester Academy, Mass.

Princeton has a verbal from guard Max Schafer of Wayne-DePaul Catholic, N.J.

Illinois State has pledges from forward Greg Dilligard of Ewing-Highland, Mo.; and center Ronnie Carlwell of Maywood-Proviso East, Ill.

Forward Dave Hoskins of Plymouth-Salem, Mich., committed to Central Michigan over interest from Kent and Marquette.

Siena has a pledge from forward Joel Green of Philadelphia, Pa./Hargrave MA, Va.

Forward Vladimiras Severovas of Birmingham-Groves, Mich., who averaged 22 points and 13 rebounds as a junior, committed to Wright State.

Georgia has a recommitment from tight end Leonard Pope of Americus, Ga./Hargrave MA, Va., who originally signed with Class 2002. Pope was considered a Top 150 prep prospect last year.

Oklahoma State gained a verbal from athlete Andrew Alexander of Lawton, Okla.
