Touted redshirt sophomore center/forward Jason Parker of Charlotte-West Charlotte, N.C./Fork Union Military Academy, Va., who was dismissed by Kentucky, is a walk-on at South Carolina. Parker, dropped by the Wildcats for violating team policy, averaged 8.6 points and 4.7 rebounds as a true freshman. Injured last year, he will redshirt 2002-03 for the Gamecocks and have two seasons remaining. He chose North Carolina before eventually signing with Kentucky. More Basketball News:
Forward Coleman Collins of Atlanta-Chamblee, Ga., has committed to Virginia Tech, joining guard Jamon Gordon of Jacksonville-Andrew Jackson, Fla., who recently verballed. Center Deonte Smith of Petersburg, Va./Mt. Zion Academy, N.C., will walk on for the Hokies this season. Shortly after choosing Nebraska, guard Quinton Day of Kansas City-Paseo Academy, Mo., has withdrawn his pledge. He is considering the Huskers, Cincinnati, Iowa State, UNLV, St. Louis, Minnesota and Oklahoma. Guard Tre Whitted of Wilmington-Laney, N.C., has committed to Marshall. Forward Marvin Black of Cleveland-John Hay, Ohio/Coffeyville CC, Kan., recently signed with the Thundering Herd for the upcoming season.
UNLV has a commitment from guard John Winston of Richmond-Salesian, Calif/Hercules, Calif., over interest in Colorado, Utah and Oregon State. Class 2002 Top 100 forward Josh Rhodes of Santa Cruz, Calif., has been given his requested release by Iowa. Class 2003:

The Florida Gators have a commitment from linebacker Dwight Stephenson Jr. of Boca Raton-Pope John Paul II, Fla., over Miami (Fla.), Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Alabama, Boston College and North Carolina, among many others. Linebacker Brett Warren of Clifton-Centreville, Va., has chosen Virginia Tech. The Hokies recently gained offensive lineman Nick Marshman of Harrisonburg/Bridgewater-Turner Ashby, Va., over West Virginia; Top 150 offensive lineman Tripp Carroll of Jacksonville-Andrew Jackson, Fla., over Clemson, Ohio State, Florida, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina, North Carolina State and South Carolina, among many others; running back Joey Razzano of Milford, Ohio, over Mississippi; and tight end John Kinzer of Fairfax-Robinson, Va., over Virginia, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Syracuse.
East Carolina has its eighth commitment in receiver Deon Adams of Greensboro-Smith, N.C.
