Top 100 center Jackie Butler of McComb, Miss., has committed to Mississippi State over Alabama, LSU, Louisville and Mississippi. He averaged 25 points, 20 rebounds and 10 blocks as a junior.

The Bulldogs had recently pledged Top 100 prospects Travis Outlaw, a forward from Starkville, Miss., and Gary Ervin, a guard from Brooklyn-Robeson, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy, Mass.

Starting senior guard Shantay Legans of Goleta-Dos Pueblos, Calif., says he will transfer from California to Fresno State and will redshirt the 2002-03 season. He averaged 8.1 points and 3.8 assists as a junior.

California signed forward Jordi Geli Vilardell of Spain for this upcoming season. The Bears announced that junior center Gabriel Hughes, who considered transferring, will remain with the team.

Iowa pledged guard Mike Henderson of Waterloo-East, Iowa. Henderson, who earlier decommitted from Iowa State, also drew interest from Oklahoma, North Carolina, Arizona, Florida and Georgia Tech.

Texas A&M has a commitment from guard Justin Loewe of Caldwell, Texas, who averaged 24.9 points as a junior.

Fairleigh Dickinson added forward Gordon Klaiber of Greenbelt-National Christian Academy, Md., for the upcoming season. He had earlier committed to Hartford.

Auburn signed guard Troy Gaines of Tucson, Ariz./Scottsdale CC, Ariz., for the upcoming season.

Fairfield pledged forward Marty O'Sullivan of Rochester-McQuaid Jesuit, N.Y.

Forward Alexander Johnson of Albany-Dougherty, Ga., who signed with Georgia in Class 2002, but did not qualify, will attend Bridgton Academy, Maine.

Florida has a Class 2004 commitment from guard Mike O'Donnell of Clearwater-Largo, Fla.

Georgia Tech signed guard/forward Jim Nystrom of Stockhom, Sweden, for the upcoming season. Guard Mario West of Douglasville-Douglas County, Ga., will walk on.

Senior center Nigel Dixon of Orlando-Edgewater, Fla., has transferred from Florida State to Western Kentucky and will redshirt the 2002-03 season.

Ball State pledged guard Peyton Stovall of Lafayette-Jefferson, Ind., over Evansville and Wright State.

St. John's signed guard Bruce Price of Minneapolis-South, Minn., who averaged 21 points as a senior.

Duke-bound J.J. Redick led the East past West, 138-107, in the 2002 McDonald's All American Game at Madison Square Garden in New York. (Stories/Rosters for 2002, 2001, 2000).

The NBA selected only one high school and a single junior college prospect during the 2002 draft: Center/forward Amare Stoudemire of Orlando-Cypress Creek, Fla., was taken 9th in the first round by Phoenix, while Portland took forward Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi CC, Miss., at No. 21 in the first round. Sending a message to inexperienced hopefuls, the NBA passed on three other high school/prep school prospects and seven junior college players (List). Last season, five of the six high school players who declared for the draft were selected, with Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry and DeSagana Diop being taken among the first eight picks. None made an impact during their rookie season.

Oklahoma gained a commitment from receiver/quarterback Marcus Johnson of Abilene, Texas, over offers from Texas, Alabama, Purdue, Texas Tech, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M, among others. Nebraska also showed interest.

Texas Tech added a pledge from linebacker Paul Williams of Tyler-Lee, Texas, over Baylor, Kansas State, TCU and Colorado.

Big East:
Defensive lineman Keilen Dykes of Youngstown-Chaney, Ohio, has committed to West Virginia over Pittsburgh, Missouri, Louisville, Cincinnati, Toledo and Clemson. Defensive back Davonzo Tate of Austintown/Youngstown-Austintown Fitch, Ohio, recently committed to West Virginia over an offer from Pittsburgh, plus interest from Maryland and Syracuse.

Boston College received a commitment from running back Jo-Lonn Dunbar of Syracuse-Corcoran, N.Y., over Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Syracuse and Rutgers. BC recently added a pledge from offensive lineman Gosder Cherilus of Somerville, Mass., over Iowa. Among others were Michigan, Michigan State, Pittsburgh and South Carolina.

Conference USA:
TCU received commitments from receiver/defensive back Ervin Dickerson of Beeville-A.C. Jones, Texas; and defensive lineman Ryan Kilpatrick of Fort Worth-All Saints Episcopal, Texas.
