One of the nation's top quarterbacks, Robert Lane of Monroe-Neville, La., has decided on the LSU Tigers.

Lane, who passed for 2,508 yards and 28 touchdowns as a junior, had 60 offers, including Florida, Auburn, Colorado and Mississippi. He is also considered a top baseball prospect.

Penn State has a commitment from Top 150 running back Jason Evans of Kennesaw-Harrison, Ga., over Boston College, Stanford and Texas A&M, among many others. He rushed for 1,375 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior.

Wisconsin has a commitment from offensive lineman Andrew Weininger of Harrison, N.Y., over Michigan State, Northwestern, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Arizona, Rutgers and Duke.

Iowa pledged receiver/tight end Scott Chandler of Southlake-Carroll, Texas, over an offer from SMU.

Illinois has a commitment from defensive back Alan Ball of Detroit-DePorres, Mich., over an offer from Indiana.

Big 12:
Colorado pledged defensive lineman Walter Boye-Doe of Keller, Texas, over interest from Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Texas Tech and Texas A&M. The Buffs recently gained defensive lineman Zane Tomlin of San Antonio-Clark, Texas, over Missouri, Oklahoma State, Arizona and Baylor.

Oklahoma State has a verbal from quarterback Donovan Woods of Oklahoma City-Millwood, Okla., over an offer from SMU. The Cowboys recently pledged quarterback Kevin Kolb of Stephenville, Texas.

Kansas has signed two junior college defensive line prospects for this fall: Sid Bachmann of San Diego-Kearny, Calif./Utah State/Palomar CC, Calif., and Andy Coffman of Wichita-Andover, Kan./Coffeyville CC, Kan.

Big East:
Syracuse pledged defensive lineman Kevin Osifchin of Phillipsburg, N.J., over North Carolina State, Duke, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin.

Boston College pledged tight end Trey Koziol of Hinsdale-Hinsdale Central, Ill., over Illinois, Northwestern, Indiana and Michigan State. BC recently gained defensive back/receiver Ryan Glasper of Southington, Conn., over Syracuse and Rutgers.

ACC:
North Carolina has a pledge from defensive/offensive back Quinton Person of Bethel-North Pitt, N.C., over East Carolina, Wake Forest, Virginia and Duke.

Clemson pledged offensive lineman Clint LaTray of Allen, Texas, over Tulane, SMU and TCU.

SEC:
Georgia has a verbal from offensive lineman Fernando Velasco of Louisville-Jefferson County, Ga., over Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, South Carolina and Kentucky.

Alabama verballed defensive back prospect Jarod Parrish of Summerville-Chattooga, Ga., over interest from Clemson and Vanderbilt.

Conference USA:
Cincinnati pledged defensive lineman Chris Flores of Wheaton-Warrenville South, Ill.

WAC:
SMU has a commitment from offensive lineman Justin Boren of Colleyville-Heritage, Texas, over interest from Missouri and Texas A&M.

Top 100 guard/forward Blake Adams of Houston-Nimitz, Texas, committed to TCU over Marquette, Oklahoma State, Virginia and Rice.

Guard Adrian Schaffer of Rochester-Adams, Mich., committed to Wisconsin-Green Bay.

Forward Michael Ford Huntsville-Johnson, Ala./Notre Dame Prep, Mass., has committed to Memphis over Alabama, UConn and UAB. Kendrick Perkins, the nation's top center prospect from Beaumont-Ozen, Texas, recently committed to Memphis over Texas, Alabama, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Miami, Georgia Tech, Kansas and Kentucky, among many others. He averaged 24 points and 14 rebounds as a junior.

Seven-foot-one center Jarrod Boswell of Lakeside-El Capitan, Calif., picked Wyoming over an offer from Colorado State.

Forward/center Lewis Fadipe of Nigeria/London-Forest Hill, UK/Creedmoor-Christian Faith Center, N.C., and forward David Bell of Philadelphia-Oley, Pa./Durham-Mt. Zion Academy, N.C., have signed with LaSalle for the upcoming season.

Guard David Truesdale of Charlotte-Garinger, N.C./Dodge City CC, Kan., committed to Charleston over New Mexico, South Alabama, UNC-Wilmington and Winthrop.

Guard Ryan Tricco of Phoenix-Brophy, Ariz./Mesa CC, Ariz., has signed with Duquesne and will redshirt the 2002-03 season.

Duke-bound J.J. Redick led the East past West, 138-107, in the 2002 McDonald's All American Game at Madison Square Garden in New York. (Stories/Rosters for 2002, 2001, 2000).

The NBA selected only one high school and a single junior college prospect during the 2002 draft: Center/forward Amare Stoudemire of Orlando-Cypress Creek, Fla., was taken 9th in the first round by Phoenix, while Portland took forward Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi CC, Miss., at No. 21 in the first round. Sending a message to inexperienced hopefuls, the NBA passed on three other high school/prep school prospects: forward Leonard Cooke of Old Tappan-Northern Valley Regional, N.J.; forward/center DeAngelo Collins of Inglewood, Calif.; and center Giedrius Rinkevicius of Lithuania/Bridgton Academy, Maine. Forward Brandon Roy of Seattle-Garfield, Wash., who signed with Washington, earlier withdrew his name from the draft. Seven junior college players who entered the draft were not chosen: forward Rodney Bias of Shelton State CC, Ala.; guard Cordell Billups of Pierce CC, Wash.; forward/center Lee Benson of Brown Mackie CC, Kan.; center Rashid Hardwick of Eastern Oklahoma State CC, Okla.; Kei Madison of Okaloosa-Walton CC, Fla.; guard Eddie Shelby of Dixie College, Utah; and forward Omar Weaver of Riverside CC, Calif.
