Brockington to Notre Dame; Posluszny to PSU

Notre Dame has added a commitment from linebacker Joe Brockington of Palmyra, Pa., over Boston College, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Purdue and West Virginia.

Penn State has a commitment from linebacker Paul Posluszny of Hopewell, Pa., over Pittsburgh. Among others were Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Boston College and West Virginia.

Linebacker Glenn Cook of Hollywood/Chaminade-Madonna, Fla., committed to Miami (Fla.). Cook had 17 offers, including ones from North Carolina State, Tennessee and LSU.

Colorado pledged defensive lineman Zane Tomlin of San Antonio-Clark, Texas, over Missouri, Oklahoma State, Arizona and Baylor.

Big East:
Boston College pledged defensive back/receiver Ryan Glasper of Southington, Conn., over Syracuse and Rutgers.

Mike Fladell, a 350-pound offensive lineman from Ozone Park-John Adams, N.Y., committed to Rutgers.

ACC:
Quarterback Ben Mauk of Kenton, Ohio, who passed for a national record 5,770 yards as a junior, committed to Wake Forest over interest from Penn State and LSU.

Conference USA:
TCU has receiver Marcus Brock of Lindale, Texas, over Tulane.

MAC:
Northern Illinois pledged receiver Dan Passarelli of Naperville-Central, Ill.

Pac-10:
Oregon gained receiver/defensive back Jordan Carey of Olympia-Capital, Wash., over Oregon State and Louisiana Tech.

Top News:
Top 100 forward Will Sheridan of Hockessin-Stanford School, Del., is expected to choose Villanova over Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Tennessee, Virginia and Wake Forest, among many others. Top 100 guard Mike Nardi of Elizabeth-St. Patrick's, N.J., recently picked Villanova over North Carolina State, UConn, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Stanford.

Forward/center Nouha Diakite of Athis-Mons, France/Barton County CC, Kan., committed to Louisville over interest from Alabama, Cincinnati, Nebraska, Auburn, Kentucky and Tennessee. Top 100 center James Lang of Birmingham-Central Park Christian, Ala., has the Cardinals at the top of his list.

Forward Dwayne Curtis of Chicago-Whitney Young, Ill., has committed to Auburn over DePaul, Nebraska, Purdue and Wisconsin.

Guard Kammron Taylor of Minneapolis-North, Minn., picked Wisconsin over Minnesota, Northwestern, DePaul, Houston, Wyoming, Richmond and Mississippi State.

Touted center Shawn Taylor of Atlanta-Dooley, Ga., picked Alabama over Cincinnati, Georgia and Miami (Fla.).

Center Stuart Creason of Coppell, Texas, picked Colorado State over Utah.

Forward Brandon Crone of Frankfort-Senior, Ind., pledged to Butler. He averaged 21 points as a junior. Butler recently gained a pledge from forward Nick Brooks of Robinson, Ill.

Ninety-six prospects verballed or signed from the Class 2002 Top 100 List. Uncommitted Top 100 prospects (4): Forward Leonard Cooke of Old Tappan-Northern Valley Regional, N.J. (NBA, not drafted); center/forward Amare Stoudemire of Orlando-Cypress Creek, Fla. (NBA, first round to Phoenix); forward/center DeAngelo Collins of Inglewood, Calif. (NBA, not drafted); and center Sani Ibrahim of Oak Hill Academy, Va. (Junior College).

Final team selections made for 2002 USA Men's Junior National Team (Story).

Duke-bound J.J. Redick led the East past West, 138-107, in the 2002 McDonald's All American Game at Madison Square Garden in New York. (Stories/Rosters for 2002, 2001, 2000).

The NBA selected only one high school and a single junior college prospect during the 2002 draft: Center/forward Amare Stoudemire of Orlando-Cypress Creek, Fla., was taken 9th in the first round by Phoenix, while Portland took forward Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi CC, Miss., at No. 21 in the first round. Sending a message to inexperienced hopefuls, the NBA passed on three other high school/prep school prospects: forward Leonard Cooke of Old Tappan-Northern Valley Regional, N.J.; forward/center DeAngelo Collins of Inglewood, Calif.; and center Giedrius Rinkevicius of Lithuania/Bridgton Academy, Maine. Forward Brandon Roy of Seattle-Garfield, Wash., who signed with Washington, earlier withdrew his name from the draft. Seven junior college players who entered the draft were not chosen: forward Rodney Bias of Shelton State CC, Ala.; guard Cordell Billups of Pierce CC, Wash.; forward/center Lee Benson of Brown Mackie CC, Kan.; center Rashid Hardwick of Eastern Oklahoma State CC, Okla.; Kei Madison of Okaloosa-Walton CC, Fla.; guard Eddie Shelby of Dixie College, Utah; and forward Omar Weaver of Riverside CC, Calif. Last season, five of the six high school players who declared for the draft were selected, with Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry and DeSagana Diop being taken among the first eight picks. None made an impact during their rookie season.
