Top 150 defensive back Paul Oliver of Kennesaw-Harrison, Ga., has committed to Georgia over Texas, Florida State, South Carolina, Clemson, Florida, Miami (Fla.), Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee, among others.
Miami (Fla.) pledged Top 150 defensive lineman Bryan Pata of Miami-Miami Central Senior, Fla., over interest from Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina State, North Carolina, LSU, Rutgers and Central Florida, among others.
Quarterback DaJuan Warren of Southfield, Mich., has committed to Illinois over Minnesota. The Illini recently gained Top 150 offensive lineman James Ryan of Batavia, Ill., over offers from Iowa, Michigan State, Indiana and Northern Illinois; and offensive lineman Kevin Gage of Downers Grove-South, Ill., over Purdue.
Purdue pledged quarterback Scott Carroll of Liberty, Mo., over interest in Illinois and Missouri.
The California Bears pledged defensive/offensive lineman Kyle McClure of Westlake Village-Oaks Christian, Calif. The Bears recently gained quarterback Cary Dove of Woodland Hills-Taft, Calif., who passed for 3,400 yards and 29 touchdowns as a junior; and receiver Sam DeSa of Danville-Monte Vista, Calif., who caught 65 passes for 1,210 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior.
Quarterback Ryan Mitch of McLean/Hyattsville-DeMatha Catholic, Md., has chosen Maryland over offers from Boston College, Clemson, Duke, North Carolina and UCLA. The Terps recently gained running back Lance Ball of Teaneck, N.J., over Boston College, Syracuse and Rutgers.
The Pittsburgh Panthers have commitments from running back Mike Hull of Bealeton-Liberty, Va., defensive back Allen Richardson of Euclid, Ohio, and defensive lineman Afa Anoai of Bethlehem-Freedom, Pa. Class 2003:

Eight junior college players opted for the draft: Forward Rodney Bias of Shelton State CC, Ala., once signed with Alabama; guard Cordell Billups of Pierce CC, Wash.; forward/center Lee Benson of Brown Mackie CC, Kan.; center Rashid Hardwick of Eastern Oklahoma State CC, Okla.; Kei Madison of Okaloosa-Walton CC, Fla., once linked to Indiana, Alabama and Mississippi State; guard Eddie Shelby of Dixie College, Utah; forward Omar Weaver of Riverside CC, Calif., once signed with Missouri and later committed to Fresno State; and Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi CC, Miss., once signed with Memphis.
Last season, six high school players declared for the draft, with Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry and DeSagana Diop being taken among the first eight picks. The 2002 draft will be held on June 26.
