The Texas Longhorns have pledged defensive lineman Bruce Davis of League City-Clear Creek, Texas, over Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Oklahoma State and UCLA; and defensive back Erick Jackson of Duncanville, Texas, over offers from Boston College, Florida, Kansas State and Oklahoma State.
The Longhorns recently gained linebacker Scott Derry of Pearland, Texas, and defensive lineman Thomas Marshall of Dallas-Bishop Dunne, Texas.
Texas A&M has commitments from defensive backs John Kelly and Melvin Bullitt, both from Garland-Naaman Forest, Texas.
Virginia pledged defensive back Robbie Catterton of Virginia Beach-Kellam, Va., over offers from Wake Forest and East Carolina.
The Oregon Ducks pledged defensive back A.J. Tuitele of Wilmington-Banning, Calif., over Arizona, Arizona State, Notre Dame, USC, UCLA and Washington.
Offensive lineman Kevin Gage of Downers Grove-South, Ill., committed to Illinois over Purdue.
Rutgers committed linebacker Rashawn Ricks of Paterson-Paterson Catholic, N.J.
Defensive lineman Danny Kaye of New Berlin-Eisenhower, Wis., committed to the Wisconsin Badgers over offers from Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern, Michigan and Minnesota. Texas Tech pledged quarterback Phillip Daugherty of Bridgeport, Texas, over offers from Oklahoma State and New Mexico.
Miami (Fla.) has a commitment from tight end Willie Roberts of Miami-Southridge, Fla./Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Okla., who signed with the Canes in Class 2000, but did not qualify. He was considered a Top 150 prospect as a prep.
The California Bears pledged receiver Sam DeSa of Danville-Monte Vista, Calif., who caught 65 passes for 1,210 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior.

BASKETBALL Top News:
Outstanding guard Antonio Lawrence of Jacksonville-Wolfson/Jackson, Fla./Fresno-San Joaquin Memorial, Calif., signed with San Jose State.
Guard/forward Greg Johnson of Phenix City-Central, Ala./Southern Union State CC, Ala./Chattahoochee Valley CC, Ala., signed with Southern Mississippi. He was released by Mississippi due to a new SEC ruling on attending one junior college for three straight semesters.
Class 2002 guard Ori Ichaki of Hertzlia, Israel, who played on the national team, has committed to Clemson over interest from Providence, Missouri, Pittsburgh and USC.
Class 2004 guard Michael Flowers of Madison-LaFollette, Wis., has committed to Wisconsin.

Sixteen of the top men's basketball players 18-years-old or younger have been named finalists for 2002 USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team (Story).

NBA 2002 Draft:
Eight junior college players opted for the draft: Forward Rodney Bias of Shelton State CC, Ala., once signed with Alabama; guard Cordell Billups of Pierce CC, Wash.; forward/center Lee Benson of Brown Mackie CC, Kan.; center Rashid Hardwick of Eastern Oklahoma State CC, Okla.; Kei Madison of Okaloosa-Walton CC, Fla., once linked to Indiana, Alabama and Mississippi State; guard Eddie Shelby of Dixie College, Utah; forward Omar Weaver of Riverside CC, Calif., once signed with Missouri and later committed to Fresno State; and Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi CC, Miss., once signed with Memphis.
Last season, six high school players declared for the draft, with Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry and DeSagana Diop being taken among the first eight picks. The 2002 draft will be held on June 26 and players without agents have until June 19 to withdraw. Stoudemire may be a late lottery pick, while Cooke and Collins are probable second-round choices. Roy and Rinkevicius are not expected to be drafted. Junior college prospects Woods and Benson may go in the first round.
