The LSU Tigers now have three verbals from Top 150 football prospects, while UCLA has added a promising basketball center.
Top 150 offensive lineman Jerry Sevin of River Ridge-John Curtis, La., has committed to LSU over 36 offers, led by Florida, Ohio State, UCLA, Alabama, Indiana, Baylor, Clemson, Michigan, Michigan State, West Virginia, Tulane, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Colorado, California and Mississippi. Oklahoma has a commitment from receiver Tristen Ross of Shreveport-Evangel Christian, La., over offers from Tennessee, Texas and Texas Tech. He also had interest in Colorado, Florida State and Michigan. The Sooners recently gained a commitment from offensive lineman Brian Zimpel of Broken Arrow, Okla.
The Texas Longhorns pledged linebacker Scott Derry of Pearland, Texas, over Baylor, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Purdue and Texas A&M. The Longhorns recently gained a verbal from defensive lineman Thomas Marshall of Dallas-Bishop Dunne, Texas, over offers from Georgia Tech, Baylor and Arizona.
Arkansas pledged defensive lineman Derek Moore of Fort Smith-Southside, Ark., over Tennessee, UCLA, Tulsa, Nebraska and Iowa.
Mississippi State has a commitment from defensive back Chris Swain of Stone Mountain, Ga./Jones County CC, Miss.
Tennessee pledged linebacker John Poe of Covington, Tenn./Coffeyville CC, Kan., who originally signed with the Vols in Class 2001.
Arizona State has a commitment from kicker Jesse Ainsworth of Thousand Oaks, Calif., over interest in UCLA and Colorado.
The USC Trojans have commitments from twin defensive backs Ryan Ting and Brandon Ting of Union City-Logan, Calif.

Sixteen of the top men's basketball players 18-years-old or younger have been named finalists for 2002 USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team (Story).

Eight junior college players opted for the draft: Forward Rodney Bias of Shelton State CC, Ala., once signed with Alabama; guard Cordell Billups of Pierce CC, Wash.; forward/center Lee Benson of Brown Mackie CC, Kan.; center Rashid Hardwick of Eastern Oklahoma State CC, Okla.; Kei Madison of Okaloosa-Walton CC, Fla., once linked to Indiana, Alabama and Mississippi State; guard Eddie Shelby of Dixie College, Utah; forward Omar Weaver of Riverside CC, Calif., once signed with Missouri and later committed to Fresno State; and Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi CC, Miss., once signed with Memphis.
Last season, six high school players declared for the draft, with Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry and DeSagana Diop being taken among the first eight picks. The 2002 draft will be held on June 26 and players without agents have until June 19 to withdraw. Stoudemire may be a late lottery pick, while Cooke and Collins are probable second-round choices. Roy and Rinkevicius are not expected to be drafted. Junior college prospects Woods and Benson may go in the first round.
