One of the nation's top quarterback prospects, Johnny DuRocher of Spanaway-Bethel, Wash., has committed to the Oregon Ducks over Arizona, California, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State and Stanford, among many others. He passed for 2,300 yards and 23 touchdowns as a junior.

South Carolina has a commitment from linebacker Marcus Lawrence of Aiken-Silver Bluff, S.C./Butler County CC, Kan., who originally signed with the Gamecocks in Class 2001. South Carolina recently pledged running back/defensive back Tramaine Billie of Columbia-Dreher, S.C., over interest in Clemson, LSU, Maryland and East Carolina.

The USC Trojans pledged linebacker Rob Lewis of Van Nuys-Montclair Prep, Calif.

Wyoming signed defensive back Marical Rosales of West Covina, Calif. The Cowboys recently added junior college All-American offensive lineman Jon Hawk of Denver-Mullen, Colo./Garden City CC, Kan., who chose Oklahoma as a prep.

Pittsburgh has its first commitment in linebacker/running back Chris McKillop of Kiski-Area, Pa., over an offer from Kent State.

The LSU Tigers added a verbal from offensive lineman Chris Yoder of Kingwood, Texas, over interest in Iowa, Iowa State, Boston College, Florida, Texas A&M, Tulane, Baylor and Rice.

Top News:
Sophomore guard Adam Boone of Minneapolis-Minnetonka, Minn., who is transferring from North Carolina, has decided on Minnesota over UNLV and Saint Louis. Boone, considered a Top 100 prospect in Class 2000, averaged 7.2 points for the Heels last season and started 18 games.

Thirty-three of the top men's basketball players 18-years-old or younger have accepted invitations to participate in 2002 USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team Trials (Story).

Junior center Migel Dixon of Orlando-Edgewater, Fla., is transferring from Florida State. He averaged 8 points and 6.4 rebounds, starting 22 games, last season.

Forward/center Daniel Kickert of Melbourne, Australia, signed with Saint Mary's.

Top Available Players:
Starting sophomore forward Shane Power of Crown Point, Ind., who is transferring from Iowa State, is considering Mississippi State, Pittsburgh, Virginia, New Mexico, Notre Dame and Wisconsin. Center Ryan Hollins of Pasadena-John Muir, Calif., has received his requested release from Saint Louis and is expected to sign with Washington or UCLA. Sophomore forward J.C. Mathis of Brooklyn-John F. Kennedy, N.Y., will transfer from Virginia. Freshman guard Duane John of Toronto, Ontario/Homestead-Berkshire Academy, Fla., was dismissed from Missouri. NBA 2002 Draft:
Five high school/prep school prospects have chosen to enter the draft: Forward Brandon Roy of Seattle-Garfield, Wash., who signed with Washington; forward Leonard Cooke of Old Tappan-Northern Valley Regional, N.J.; center/forward Amare Stoudemire of Orlando-Cypress Creek, Fla.; forward/center DeAngelo Collins of Inglewood, Calif.; and center Giedrius Rinkevicius of Lithuania/Bridgton Academy, Maine, who signed with Missouri, but did not qualify.

Eight junior college players opted for the draft: Forward Rodney Bias of Shelton State CC, Ala., once signed with Alabama; guard Cordell Billups of Pierce CC, Wash.; forward/center Lee Benson of Brown Mackie CC, Kan.; center Rashid Hardwick of Eastern Oklahoma State CC, Okla.; Kei Madison of Okaloosa-Walton CC, Fla., once linked to Indiana, Alabama and Mississippi State; guard Eddie Shelby of Dixie College, Utah; forward Omar Weaver of Riverside CC, Calif., once signed with Missouri and later committed to Fresno State; and Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi CC, Miss., once signed with Memphis.

Last season, six high school players declared for the draft, with Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry and DeSagana Diop being taken among the first eight picks. The 2002 draft will be held on June 26 and players without agents have until June 19 to withdraw. Stoudemire may be a late lottery pick, while Cooke and Collins are probable second-round choices. Roy and Rinkevicius are not expected to be drafted. Junior college prospects Woods and Benson may go in the first round.
