Top 100 forward Cortez Davis of Washington, D.C./Bridgton Academy, Maine/Laurinburg Institute, N.C., has signed with Rutgers.

Davis, who first committed to Maryland and then Memphis, averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds last season. The Scarlet Knights recently gained a commitment from sophomore center Gabe Hughes of Carson-Bishop Montgomery, Calif./New Hampton Prep, N.H., who is transferring from California; and signed forward Harry Good of Roosevelt-Baldwin, N.Y./Maine Central Institute, Maine/Northwestern/Fresno CC, Calif.

Top 100 forward Marcus White of Chicago-Whitney Young, Ill., received his requested release from DePaul following the coaching change. He is considering Seton Hall, Texas A&M, Miami (Fla.), UConn, Houston and Indiana.

Forward DeMarshay Johnson of Oakland, Calif./Creedmoor-Christian Faith Center, N.C., signed with Oregon State over interest from TCU.

Although the spring scholarship period ended on May 15, colleges may now sign athletes to letters of agreement.

Starting sophomore forward Odartey Blankson of Country Club Hills-Hillcrest, Ill., is transferring from Marquette. Sophomore guard Adam Boone of Minneapolis-Minnetonka, Minn., is transferring from North Carolina. Guard Antonio Lawrence of Fresno-San Joaquin Memorial, Calif.

NBA 2002 Draft: Five high school/prep school prospects have chosen to enter the draft: Forward Brandon Roy of Seattle-Garfield, Wash., who signed with Washington; forward Leonard Cooke of Old Tappan-Northern Valley Regional, N.J.; center/forward Amare Stoudemire of Orlando-Cypress Creek, Fla.; forward/center DeAngelo Collins of Inglewood, Calif.; and center Giedrius Rinkevicius of Lithuania/Bridgton Academy, Maine, who signed with Missouri, but did not qualify.

Eight junior college players opted for the draft: Forward Rodney Bias of Shelton State CC, Ala., once signed with Alabama; guard Cordell Billups of Pierce CC, Wash.; forward/center Lee Benson of Brown Mackie CC, Kan.; center Rashid Hardwick of Eastern Oklahoma State CC, Okla.; Kei Madison of Okaloosa-Walton CC, Fla., once linked to Indiana, Alabama and Mississippi State; guard Eddie Shelby of Dixie College, Utah; forward Omar Weaver of Riverside CC, Calif., once signed with Missouri and later committed to Fresno State; and Qyntel Woods of Northeast Mississippi CC, Miss., once signed with Memphis.

Last season, six high school players declared for the draft, with Kwame Brown, Tyson Chandler, Eddy Curry and DeSagana Diop being taken among the first eight picks. The 2002 draft will be held on June 26 and players without agents have until June 19 to withdraw. Stoudemire may be a late lottery pick, while Cooke and Collins are probable second-round choices. Roy and Rinkevicius are not expected to be drafted. Junior college prospects Woods and Benson may go in the first round.

Breaking fast in the recruiting war, Arkansas has its eighth commitment in defensive lineman Marcus Harrison of Little Rock-Mills, Ark. The Razorbacks recently added running back Farod Jackson of Little Rock-Mills, Ark., over offers from Oklahoma State and Louisiana Tech; linebacker Rodney Giles of Hot Springs, Ark., over interest from Purdue, Auburn, Oklahoma State, LSU, Mississippi, Air Force and Army; receiver/defensive back Herb Grigsby of Mayflower, Ark., over interest from Iowa, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Oregon and Mississippi; offensive lineman Nate Garner of Little Rock-Robinson, Ark.; and defensive lineman Keith Jackson Jr. of Little Rock-McClellan, Ark. Jackson's father, Keith Jackson Sr., was a standout tight end at Oklahoma and in the NFL.

Wyoming signed junior college All-American offensive lineman Jon Hawk of Denver-Mullen, Colo./Garden City CC, Kan., who chose Oklahoma as a prep.
