Can a leopard change its spots?
He's back.
Love him or hate him. Like him or loathe him, Bob Knight is back on the
national stage.
After a year off from coaching, a year of introspection, a year of
reprioritizing, Bob Knight is back where he thinks he belongs.
Can we blame him, or should we blame ourselves?
F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote "there are no second acts in American lives."
Well, that just might not be true.
On the surface, this is the perfect scenario for Knight. Div. I school. Isolated location. Sports mad community. Hungry fans. Supportive
athletic department and university administration.
But have we seen the last of the angry Bob Knight, or did anger just take a
holiday this season?
During his coaching hiatus, Knight became a shill for a betting tout sheet,
a face for a fruit juice, and a prospective litigant against his former
employer, the Indiana University, in case you have forgotten that fact
already. He attended baseball spring training in Florida and Arizona, put
his house in Bloomington up for sale, and gave the impression that the newly
minted IU head coach Mike Davis stabbed him in the back by accepting an
interim appointment to succeed Knight.
Well, ratings whores that we are, we'll be talking up the Bob Knight hiring Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. ET. We may even have some surprise guests.
Coach Knight. Not just Knight. It will be interesting.
