Who should compose new NBA music?
Page 2 staff

Sadly for some hoops fans, "Roundball Rock" will not be bouncing to the NBA's tune after the playoffs end in June.

You might not recognize the title, but you probably know the John Tesh-written theme that has accompanied NBC's NBA telecasts for the past 12 years.

When the NBA comes to ESPN and ABC next season, the new-age musician's composition won't be tagging along.

"It's so funny, because that theme has become so synonymous with basketball, and now that ABC's got it -- we actually contacted the guys at ESPN, and they said 'No, we're going to write a new theme,'" Tesh told The Associated Press recently.

So, Page 2 wants to know who should be hired to compose the new theme music. Take a look at our candidates below and vote in the poll at right.

John Tesh

Experience: You know that NBC tune, "Da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da ..."

Hoops cred: Ummm ... he's tall.

Pearl Jam

Experience: The band was originally named Mookie Blaylock, after the former Oklahoma Sooners star, but had to change the name when Blaylock wouldn't give permission to use his name. Band members are pals with Dennis Rodman.

Hoops cred: Bassist Jeff Ament is a regular at Sonics games and an MTV Rock 'n' Jock veteran. Singer Eddie Vedder's a longtime Bulls fan.

Ice Cube

Experience: "It Was a Very Good Day" Cube sings about "Freaking brothers everyway like MJ" and "The Lakers beat the SuperSonics."

Hoops cred: A Lakers fan who also loves the Clippers.

Bootsy Collins

Experience: Even unhip Danny Ainge can be heard uttering Collins' "Glory be, the funk's on me ..." catchprase from Nike's Roswell Rayguns commercials.

Hoops cred: He's got the funk.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Experience: Their "Magic Johnson" off the "Mothers Milk" CD sings the praises of "L.A. Lakers fast break makers; Kings of the court shake and bake all takers."

Hoops cred: Lakers fans, in case you couldn't tell, especially lead singer Anthony Kiedis.

Snoop Dogg

Experience: His "Hoop Dreams (He Got Game)" was "for all the NBA players that dream of being a rapper; I'm a rapper that dreams of being a NBA player and I'm a baller."

Hoops cred: Regular in the NBA Entertainment League.

Pink

Experience: Catchy "Get the Party Started" has nothing to do with hoops, but it's become the NBA's unofficial anthem this season.

Hoops cred: Philly gal is a longtime 76ers fan.

Wayman Tisdale

Experience: Jazz bassist has released four CDS, including hoops-inspired titles such as "Power Forward" and "In the Zone."

Hoops cred: Thirteen-year NBA veteran with Pacers, Kings and Suns.

Ozzy Osbourne

No hoops-related background or hoops cred. He's just on here because he's Ozzy.
