Next to Tiger Woods, the woman next to Tiger is getting the most attention this week at The Masters at Augusta National.
So, in tribute to nannies, governesses, au pairs, legal guardians, foster parents and babysitters everywhere, Page 2 compares Tiger's Swedish girlfriend with some other notable nannies to see how Elin Nordegren stacks up. Take a look at the qualifications for each of our candidates, then vote in the poll at right for the one you'd hire as your nanny.

Elin Nordegren
This model is a former nanny for fellow Swede Jesper Parnevik. But less than a year after the flashy-dressing golfer introduced Nordegren to the best golfer in the world, Parnevik needed a new nanny to look after his kids ... and the 21-year-old blonde beauty was taming Tiger.

Adam Sandler
If it's discipline you're looking for, then Sandler is definitely not your man. But if you want to have a little fun, nobody will let you get away with more than this "Big Daddy." Adam won't say a negative word when you urinate on the sides of buildings, overindulge on junk food and stay up as late as you want. He's guaranteed to keep any kid smiling, but don't be surprised if hanging out too much with "Billy Madison" means you have to go back and repeat the third grade.

Jodie Foster
Though it's not an original tale, Foster's experience in "Anna and the King" deserves consideration. As English schoolteacher Anna Leonowens, she ventured around the world to teach the children of Siam's King Mongkut. A blossoming romance between the two should cause prospective employers to make sure to have their HR departments update their policies on manager-subordinate relations and sexual discrimination in the workplace.

Robin Williams
As Mrs. Doubtfire, "she" provides both motherly and fatherly role models. If you don't mind the sexual confusion of your dad dressing up as a Scottish nanny so he can spend more time with his kids, then look no further than well-meaning Williams.

Elisabeth Shue
Shue's résumé is filled with ample "Adventures in Babysitting." If you do hire her, however, you might want to confine her to the home. She tends to get in trouble when she ventures into a big city with the kids in tow -- even going as far as to frequent a blues bar or a gang hangout. On the other hand, she once gave round-the-clock care to a difficult alcoholic in a performance that drew rave reviews.

Hulk Hogan
Who better than a former pro wrestler to provide kids with tough love? This "Mr. Nanny" thought his job was strictly to be a bodyguard for two children of a manager, but the Hulkster soon felt like he needed protection from the kids.
Julie Andrews
All kids enjoy a fun-loving, singing, dancing, flying, chim-chim-chimineying nanny such as Andrews' Mary Poppins, but her old-style -- "Spoonful of Sugar" -- penchant for sweets might not sit well with today's parents. Throw in Andrews' stint as the governess in "The Sound of Music," and her résumé is tough to match. Who wouldn't want cheerful Maria, fresh out of an Austrian convent, to look after their hard-to-control kids?

Rebecca De Mornay
Nobody wants children of her own more than this perky little blonde -- heck, she's even willing to kill for them. If you hire Rebecca, you'll want to keep an eye not only on "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle," but also the knife in her other hand. On the plus side, she did show Tom Cruise a thing or two about adulthood in "Risky Business" -- even providing the young man with a lucrative new career.
Minnie Driver
Across the pond, they once called this young Brit "The Governess," but she's certainly capable of caring for children as a stateside nanny. If you like apples, you'll definitely want to get Driver's phone number and give her a call. Note: Don't call Josh Brolin for a reference about commitment.
Fran Drescher
No one is more synonymous with the word "nanny" than this babbling brunette from Queens. Once you're able to block out her annoying laugh, you'll definitely be impressed with her skills as a child educator. Just don't try to figure out how her show managed to stay on a major network for all those years. And don't let her near the man of the house -- in both "The Nanny" and "The Beautician and the Beast" she proved to be easily distracted by matters of the heart.

Juliet Mills
If you're looking for a nanny to get you out of a jam, then Mills should definitely be your choice. She magically appeared on the doorstep of Professor Harold Everett one day when the guy need a little help with his three kids on the 1970s sitcom "The Nanny and the Professor." The fact that she is gifted with mysterious powers is an added bonus. |
