Murray was the first Bassmaster Classic champion, winning the inaugural world championship in 1971 on Lake Mead, Nev. He repeated as the Classic winner in 1978 on Ross Barnett Reservoir, Miss. He made nine Classic appearances before retiring from BASS tournaments in 1995.
