BARCELONA, Spain -- Russia's Alexander Dobroskok captured his second gold medal at the World Swimming Championships on Tuesday, winning the 3-meter springboard when teammate Dimitry Sautin made a mistake on his final dive.

Dobroskok scored 788.37 points followed by China's Peg Bo with 780.84 and Sautin with 776.64. Sautin had been leading through the first five dives.

"Sautin is the greatest of all of us," Dobroskok said. "I cannot believe that I am the winner."

On the final dive, Dobroskok nailed a 2½ somersault with a 1½ twist. Sautin did a not-so-clean 1½ somersault with a 3½ twist.

Dobroskok and Sautin won a gold medal in the 3-meter synchronized springboard Sunday, the first day of the championships.

Before these worlds, Sautin had won 19 medals -- 10 of them gold -- in the Olympics, world championships and World Cup. He won the 1996 Olympic gold in the 10-meter platform.

"For me, it is the most prestigious win," Dobroskok said. "We were silver medalists in the 3-meter down in Sydney but for me, world champion is the best."

Through six events, Russia has three gold medals and three bronze and leads with six overall. Three other countries have three golds -- Australia, China and Italy.

Eight days of swimming in the main pool begin Sunday.

In women's preliminary water polo Tuesday, the United States beat France 15-3. Brenda Villa scored six goals for the Americans and teammate Ellen Estes added four.

Three medal events are set for Wednesday: women's 10-meter platform diving and 10-kilometer open water for men and women.
