Nalley is still Indiana's all-time rushing leader

Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS -- Dick Nalley, a member of the United States' two-man bobsled team in the 1980 Winter Olympics, has died. He was 47.

Nalley, who died Wednesday of cancer, teamed with Howard Silher at the Lake Placid Games, where they finished fifth in the bobsled competition.

Nalley was a graduate of the University of Indianapolis, where he participated in track and football and still holds the school's career record for yards rushing with 3,559. He was inducted into the university's athletic hall of fame in 1992.

Nalley was an Indianapolis firefighter since 1986 and won a gold medal in the bench press at the 1997 World Police and Fire Games in Calgary, Alberta, and a silver medal at the 1999 games in Sweden. He also was an eight-time Indiana bench press champion.

Survivors include his wife, Denise, sons Richie and Marcus, and daughters Melissa and Megan Nalley.
