Uzelac breaks toe in practice

CLEVELAND -- Kristal Uzelac will miss the U.S. Gymnastics Championships after breaking a toe in practice.

She was expected to challenge favorite Tasha Schwikert for gold.

Uzelac, a three-time national junior champion, broke the little toe on here right foot while attempting a front flip mount onto the balance beam Tuesday night at Gund Arena.

She is expected to be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks.

This was going to be the 16-year-old Uzelac's first senior competition.

Her withdrawal leaves Schwikert and Annia Hatch as the top contenders in the women's senior field, which begins competition Thursday night.

Schwikert is seeking her second national title.
