SASKATOON, Saskatchewan -- Michele Smith hit a two-run homer as the United States beat the Czech Republic 13-0 on Saturday night to improve to 2-0 in the Women's World Softball Championship.
Lori Harrigan threw a two-hitter and struck out eight in the game that was shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.
The United States, seeking its fifth consecutive title, scored eight runs in the third inning, and Smith homered in a four-run fourth.
The U.S. team will resume round-robin play Sunday against Canada. |
