Many changes later, the Senators have almost as many questions as answers. Gone is big-time headache Alexei Yashin, who was also their leading scorer, but it remains to be seen who will take his place. Goodbye Alexei, hello Jason?: In return for dealing Yashin to the Islanders in June, the Senators received the No. 2 overall pick and grabbed center Jason Spezza. Spezza trained hard in the offseason, reporting that he lost 12 pounds and added some muscle while working with a power skating coach. Spezza is a bona fide talent, as well as being the most marketable kid on the club. Camp will tell if he's ready to make the jump to the big time. Who'll be front and center?: With Yashin gone, the Senators have to sort out the center position. The leading candidate for the top spot is Radek Bonk. The other potentials are Mike Fisher, who even captain Daniel Alfredsson said likely wasn't yet ready for even the No. 2 spot, Todd White and Steve Martins. The perennial grit question: The subject always arises when the regular season ends. Sure, the Senators are great skaters. Sure, the Senators are talented. Sure, the Senators can score goals. But are they tough enough to have success in the playoffs? The last few years, they've proven the answer is no. It remains so.
