User Rankings: Rangers frustrations

March 27, 2000

This week's User Power Rankings come to us from Marty Molloy in Raleigh, N.C. Marty wanted to get out his frustrations over all the players the New York Rangers should/could have had this season.

Below are Marty's rankings for this week. In the second column we've indicated where the team was ranked in ESPN.com's Rankings. As always, you can send us your comments or try to top Marty's effort with your own Rankings.

Team .com W-L-T-RT ESPN.com says
1.   Blues 1 49-17-10-0 Giving up Eastwood was a great move Rangers. Where is the toughness we need now? Oh, in St. Louis -- Much, Much, Much better than the Rangers
2.   Capitals 3 41-23-11-1 Much better than the Rangers. A bunch of no names, who would have figured? Not Neil Smith
3.   Stars 4 41-26-8-5 One word ... Zubov
4.   Red Wings 2 45-22-9-2 Let's see, Shanahan was too old to trade Kovalev for??
5.   Avalanche 5 36-29-11-1 Damn that Joe Sakic. Should have put that effort into keeping Messier.
6.   Flyers 6 40-23-12-3 I just hate the Flyers so I can't say anything about them except: Hextall = Swiss Cheese. Oh, and didn't we sign Lindros at one point only to have the league say that the Nordiques owned him? D'OH!!!
7.   Devils 7 42-26-8-5 Thank God they didn't get Mess. I can come down from the roof now.
8.   Leafs 12 41-27-7-3 Karpotsev for Schneider... hmm good move. A miracle!!
9.   Hawks 21 26-43-7-7 Trading Amonte did get us the cup, though we do miss him now.
10. Predators 22 26-43-7-7 An expansion team that will some day outwit a Rangers GM, just give them time.
11. Kings 8 36-30-10-4 Why do you go to another team and get good Luc? And what do we get, a crackhead! Who ever heard of a hockey player smoking crack before?
12. Senators 10 37-26-11-2 Can we talk about Yashin? Please?
13. Panthers 9 40-30-5-5 Hmmm, no Malhotra is too much to give for Bure...
14. Oilers 16 28-31-16-8 Can we have MacTavish and Kevin Lowe back please? They're old and coaching but better than many of our players!
15. Ducks 15 32-33-12-2 Didn't we have another chance to trade Kovalev here for Selanne a few years back?
16. Canadiens 20 32-35-9-3 Wow, banged up players, little talent, and they're a better team. Corson would have helped us.
17. Penguins 17 32-35-8-6 We give them Kovalev, who was too good to trade for anyone else for Nedved? We give up Popovic for Hatcher?
18. Cancuks 13 28-34-14-8 I still cry everytime I think about it. Please come home Mark.
19. Sabres 11 31-34-10-3 You guys want Muckler back? We sure as hell don't want him anymore.
20. Coyotes 28 35-33-7-3 Tkachuk for Fleury? I like it. Hell they can have Kamensky, Quintal, Muckler, Stevens, and a draft pick too as far as I'm concerned.
21. Sharks 14 32-34-9-7 Hmmm, a crappy Sundstrom would be better than the lack of centers we have now. I do like Dvorak though.
22. Flames 19 30-37-9-5 You guys want Theo back? And when did Savard become so good.
23. 'Canes 18 32-33-10-0 All I can say is Primeau has sucked, thank God we never pulled the trigger on that one.
24. Lightning 24 17-49-8-7 If Cloutier was still on the team, he'd be the best fighter we had.
25. Thrashers 26 13-54-7-4 See No. 10
26. Bruins 23 23-34-18-6 Knuble will score 50 goals someday. Just watch.
27. Rangers 27 29-37-11-3 You really didn't think I'd put the Isles in front of them? It's a shallow victory, but the only one I have right now seeing that we're the farm team for the rest of the league and the old players elephant's graveyard.
28. Islanders 25 22-46-8-1 Thank you for Rich Pilon. Anyone else you want to send us.
