Osgood lifts Detroit to No. 5

ESPN.com

Jan. 15, 2001

Chris Osgood has started six of Detroit's last seven games and his GAA has dropped below 3.0 for the first time since October. "I think I've turned the corner now," he told the Detroit Free Press. "I think I'm playing like I'm capable of. I just have to do it for the remainder of the season."

Into the playoffs would be nice, too.

ESPN.com's secret formula has taken it in and spit it back out. To right any wrongs, click here and give us a few Rank Comments of your own.

Team PVS W-L-T-OL ESPN.com says
1. Devils 1 22-11-9-0 14 goals in 13 games – welcome back to the NHL, Mr. Mogilny.
2. Avalanche 2 28-8-8-1 Yes, hockey is a game of mistakes. But when Ray Bourque starts making them, it means he needs a break.
3. Sharks 4 26-11-6-0 With Compaq owning arena naming rights, will it now be known as the Sharq Tanq?
4. Blues 3 29-8-4-1 After a 5-5-0 spell, now is a good time for the Brent Johnson Show.
5. Red Wings 8 25-13-4-4 The No. 3 power play in the league and the No. 3 penalty-killing unit. Too bad most of the game is five-on-five.
6. Stars 5 25-13-4-1 Ted Donato was arrested during a raid at a "gentlemen's club" while celebrating Tyler Bouck's 21st birthday. Whatever happened to cake and ice cream?
7. Canucks 9 24-13-4-4 Bob Essensa has the same number of wins as Felix Potvin, yet has started 16 fewer games. Are we missing something?
8. Flyers 11 21-14-9-0 Rumor has it Eric Lindros wants to play in Toronto so bad, he'd even suit up for Don Cherry's Mississauga Ice Dogs, who are dead last in the OHL at 3-30-6-1.
9. Senators 10 24-13-6-0 Talk about bad bounces – the Sens rookie party in Vancouver, cancelled due to the flu, will be in Phoenix … and U.S. dollars.
10. Penguins 7 20-17-6-1 Deals for Stevens, McKenna and Oliwa confirm the Penguins were just a tad soft.
11. Capitals 6 20-16-8-1 Washington vs. Atlanta – hey, everyone needs a rival, don't they?
12. Sabres 12 22-15-5-1 Mike Peca says he's done as a Sabre. Thanks for the newsflash, Mike.
13. Maple Leafs 13 21-14-7-3 Somehow the Leafs have to find a way to beat the Devils, because inevitably the road to the Stanley Cup will go through New Jersey.
14. Kings 15 19-17-7-1 Rob Blake's agent said he'd listen to offers from other teams. What a coincidence, the Kings are in Toronto on Wednesday.
15. Blackhawks 19 18-20-4-2 By calling him "adequate, at best," GM Mike Smith lit a fire under goalie Jocelyn Thibault. Imagine if Smith said he was just plain bad?
16. Bruins 22 17-17-6-4 Three regulation wins in a row for the first time in 111 games. Pinch me.
17. Coyotes 14 18-13-11-1 Just a reminder: the Coyotes started the season 9-1-5.
18. Flames 16 15-18-8-4 The Flames are 1-15-4-2 when surrendering the first goal and were 0-2-0-0 last week when surrendering the first goal on the first shot.
19. Oilers 17 21-19-6-1 Dominic Roussel saying his green and purple pads from Anaheim look like a Christmas tree is an insult to Christmas trees.
20. Hurricanes 23 18-16-6-2 Winning tends to quell coaching rumors.
21. Predators 21 17-21-7-1 The Preds are 5-11-6-0 are at home, 12-10-1-1 on the road. What's the matter, don't they like country music?
22. Wild 18 14-20-8-2 Wild set home unbeaten record for expansion teams (5-0-4) before losing to Colorado.
23. Thrashers 20 15-20-8-1 Is there such thing as an ESPN.com cover jinx? If not, we may have started one.
24. Canadiens 27 14-25-4-2 How pathetic are the Habs' injury woes? Craig Darby fell during a pregame skate last week and dislocated his shoulder.
25. Ducks 24 14-22-6-4 Guy Charron's key to victory: "We all work hard and we all do the things we have to do to win." Eureka!
26. Rangers 26 17-24-2-1 The Rangers are the only team without a shutout this season. Like that's a shock.
27. Blue Jackets 25 13-26-4-2 Fans unhappy after loss to Chicago. Hey, even the best honeymoons get a little testy.
28. Lightning 28 13-23-5-2 Four-game road trip and no Vincent Lecavalier. Sounds like a fun time.
29. Islanders 30 12-26-4-2 "I said to them that there was no way we were leaving this building with a losing streak," said Butch Goring. How to win in the NHL: threaten to lock your team in Mellon Arena.
30. Panthers 29 8-22-8-6 At least the weather is nice.
