What do a fourth liner, a guy with the letter 'v' appearing twice in his last name, and a sniper for the league's worst team all have in common? Yup, they find themselves somewhere on this page. See if you can find out which is which.
Each week, ESPN.com goes inside the numbers to see who in the league is tearing it up ... and whose contracts might need to be torn up. Here is this week's list of the hot and not.
Who's Hot
Theo Fleury: 4 GP, 6-2-8
As poorly as things went for Fleury last season, they've gone equally well the past 10 days or so. Rangers coach Ron Low moved him to another line -- Fleury refuses to acknowledge it as the fourth -- and Fleury caught fire. The lesson learned: This guy is best when angry.

Sergei Samsonov: 4 GP, 2-6-8
Samsonov always looks good out there, but it doesn't always translate into points for the Bruins. This week, it did. There's no doubt that the inspired play of Jason Allison (3-4-7) helped him out, but when Samsonov actually shoots at the end of his cycling pirouettes, positive things will always happen.

Oleg Tverdovsky: 4 GP, 2-5-7
In his first 11 games, Tverdovsky had four points. But in four contests last week, he tore it up and gave the Ducks a major boost. He is essential to Anaheim's success, especially on the power play, where he has the ability to tally up to 30 points in a season.

Cy Young vs. Matt Young
Who's Not Hot
Andrei Kovalenko: 4 GP, minus-10
The Bruins do stink, but Allison and Samsonov found ways to succeed last week. Not Kovalenko, who was a collective minus-10 in four games. And that doesn't include his minus-1 Sunday against Toronto, which is actually pretty good considering the team lost 7-1. His nickname has always been "The Tank" ... now, it fits the free-agent acquisition for a reason other than his stocky build.
Nicklas Lidstrom: 3 GP minus-8, 0 points
Lidstrom is a perennial candidate for the Norris Trophy, but he -- like the Red Wings -- is really struggling. Put it this way: He has never finished a season with a plus-minus worse than plus-7, and he's minus-3 right now. Lidstrom hasn't scored a goal yet and is on pace to score 25 fewer points this season.

Mike Vernon: 2 losses, .743 save pct.
The Flames have done everything to give the No. 1 goalie job to anyone other than Fred Brathwaite. Last season, it was Grant Fuhr. This season, Mike Vernon. One month into this season, the Vernon experiment might be over because his recent performances cost the long-time Flames hero the starting job in Calgary.
