How do Minnesota and Columbus rank as expansion teams? ESPN.com gathered the statistics of the last nine expansion teams after 40 and 80 games and listed them by points. Why 40 and 80 not this season's half-way point of 41 or total of 82? Because the NHL played only 80 games when San Jose joined the league in 1991, then expanded to 84 when Tampa Bay and Ottawa joined in 1992. The last four teams -- Minnesota, Columbus, Atlanta and Nashville -- joined under an 82-game schedule.
