Oct. 19, 2000 Funny how all those Bruins fans went into hiding this week after a couple of ugly losses. What's out there? Oilers and Canucks fans demand respect. Philly -- big surprise -- wants its team ranked last. And our pal, Heather, gives us some rare kind words. Here are your comments this week:
Who pissed in your cornflakes? Did your Compuware shares go belly up? Did Paul Maurice give you the evil eye -- the one that works? Do you not want Latvian independence? What have you got against the Hurricanes? You have the Panthers, Crapitals, and even the Rangers -- wins over the Thrashers and the Canadiens make Messier the next Moses, eh?. Did you not watch the game against Dallas? In case you didn't -- Hurricanes 5, Dallas 2. Being a Hurricanes season ticket holder since their move from Hartford, I am sure you'll have some attendance figure comeback. How many have showed up at Anaheim and Florida this year? It's time to give the Canes their due. Just because ESPN is based in Connecticut does not give you the right to bash those that have left -- it's been four years -- let it go! Finally, not everyone uses IE 5.0 -- tell your web developer to test with Netscape!
Now, I know that you guys down south are pretty ignorant to your friendly neighbors to the north, but to put the Sens behind the Devils, Kings, and Yotes is just ridiculous. The last time I checked, Ottawa beat New Jersey, and New Jersey hasn't exactly been impressive in their wins. Ottawa has beaten three of the top teams in the league and still gets no respect. To put the Kings ahead because they're fun to watch is as bad as my sister cheering for a certain team because of their pretty uniforms. And the Coyotes, well they'll be at the top of the conference for the first month and find themselves struggling for the playoffs in April. Wake up!
Holy "take another penalty" ZHITnik.
Just take the damned Flyers and put them down with the expansion teams until they start playing with the desire -- and skill for that matter -- of the Penn State club team. Lindros in orange and black is looking better and better, eh, Bob?
The Flyers are no more worthy of being No. 14 than Lindros's parents are worthy of talking with GM Bobby Clarke. They should be ranked about 10 spots lower. Tell the Waterboy that he is INDEED in a sophomore slump.
You should be showing the Oilers more respect. You have the Red Wings ranked 8th with a 2-3-0 record. Come on guys, the Oilers have beaten the Red Wings twice already this season and have a great record. You bloody American sports networks can't show a Canadian team any respect. SHAME ON YOU!
From what I can tell, you guys don't receive a lot of praise for your Rank Comments, so I figured it's about time. You could do a little better -- with the Blues at No. 1 -- but you could also do a lot worse, so congrats.
You dopes. Don't penalize the Sens untill you actually see them play with Jani Hurme.
It's official. Hockey Town is gone. ... oh, the memories.
I know hockey ranks as fifth to you supposed 'experts' behind baseball, basketball, football and wrestling, but gimme a break. Canucks as the No. 23 team while posting an above .500 record? Next thing you'll tell me is that Mike Tyson is becoming a priest and Bill Clinton is faithful. I don't know what you 'experts' are smoking, but give these young Canucks a closer look, and some much deserved respect for their impressive mix of speed, grit, toughness, youth and skill. Heck, you may even find it in your hearts to place them in the top half of the league, where they belong based on their play to date. That's the basis of the Power Poll isn't it. It's based on recent play, which means that Florida and Philadelphia should fall to the lower half of the rankings based on their pitiful starts.
The Blue Jackets will get better. I bet they get more wins than the Buckeyes! Just ignore them, and they will come and bite someone's arse. GO BLUE ... Jackets, that is.
People, People, PEOPLE! I have no illusions now as to why you are so frequently alleged to partake of forbidden pharmaceuticals. There were 16 teams with .500 or worse records -- leaving 14 with over .500 records. Think that means the teams doing well right now should be in the top half, at least? Not if you work for ESPN, apparently. There are four greater than .500 teams buried well below the halfway mark of your Rankings, and you have five losing or merely break-even teams in the top. Dump those Wings and Leafs until they show us something this year! Oh, and your No. 13 Sabres got creamated by the Canucks, which you promptly dumped another 3 places to No. 23. YOU ARE MAKING ME VERY SAD!
I still have the confidence that one day you will appreciate how good the Vancouver Canucks really are. Last year, some idiot went as far as saying 'Let's face it, this team won't make the playoffs,' and almost ended up eating his words. (Editor's note: That someone DIDN'T have to eat his words.) Please don't go as far as ranking them in the twenty-somethings. Vancouver is the real deal.
How could you guys not rank the Oil a little bit higher? Please ... does their best start since 1984-85 mean nothing to you?
It looks like payroll and not wins are more important for Power Rankings.
Maybe if I stroke your egos this will be posted. ... I love the Power Rankings. They are always right! You are soooo hockey knowledgeable. The finest hockey Power Rankings in all the land!
I hope all the gang working the NHL -- and NHL2Night -- section of ESPN.GO.COM beat the living bejesus out of whoever is responsible for posting the repeat Yanks winning the ALCS on the front web page over Patrick Roy's record-setting victory -- here's a cold Molson XXX to ya!
