Tuesday, June 4 Updated: June 4, 3:20 PM ET Hasek will receive $1M bonus with Cup win ESPN.com news services Detroit goalie Dominik Hasek is apparently dominating in another department -- the playoff bonus. According to a Bloomberg report, Hasek will receive a $1 million bonus if the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup, which begins against Carolina on Tuesday night. The award is the most lucrative bonus for any of the players participating in the finals, the report said. Hasek's $8 million salary is second among NHL goalies - only Colorado's Patrick Roy made more at $8.5 million. Hasek is also one of 13 players in the finals who could potentially make extra money if their team wins the championship or the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff's most valuable player. "Some teams prefer to pay individual bonuses because it may attract players,'' Agent Don Meehan told Bloomberg. "Some prefer to use a team bonus plan, where all the bonus money is split equally.'' Other members of the Wings who are eligible for title-clinching bonuses are Steve Yzerman ($150,000), Brendan Shanahan, Igor Larionov, Nicklas Lidstrom and Chris Chelios at $100,000; Brett Hull could get $75,000, Darren McCarty $25,000 and Kris Draper $15,000. According to the report, the four Carolina players with playoff-incentive bonuses are Rod Brind'Amour, Jaroslav Svoboda, Ron Francis and goalie Arturs Irbe. |
