DETROIT -- Brett Hull signed a one-year contract extension to stay with the Detroit Red Wings.
The 38-year-old forward, who this season became the fifth NHL player with 700 career goals, said he has become comfortable with Detroit's management and his Red Wings teammates. "Besides the players and the coaching staff, (GM) Ken Holland and (assistant GM) Jim Nill are such honest and straightforward people to deal with,'' Hull said Thursday. Hull, in his second season with the Red Wings, has enjoyed playing with young linemates Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. "To be able to play with those two kids, it's so much fun,'' he said. "I find myself not going to the right place sometimes because I'm watching them. It's so great to come to the rink and know you're playing with those guys. That makes a difference when you're 38 years old.'' Hull's brother and agent Bobby Hull Jr. said the deal was reached Tuesday. "Brett's happy to stay on with the Wings for another year,'' the agent said. Hull's original contract, signed before last season, said if he won a Stanley Cup and scored 35 goals in two seasons, he would automatically be renewed for a third season at the same $4.5 million he was making. He has 33 goals this season. Holland and Hull instead agreed to a new one-year agreement for next season worth "more than $4.5 million,'' Hull's brother said. Hull has 69 points this season and 712 career goals. |
