Morozov joins long list of injured Penguins

Associated Press

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh forward Aleksey Morozov, one of seven Penguins players currently injured, is expected to be out six-to-eight weeks because of a broken right wrist.

Morozov returned to Pittsburgh after being injured Tuesday night in Toronto, and team physician Charles Burke said tests revealed a break. Morozov is tied for third on the team in scoring with nine goals, 16 assists and 25 points.

Forward Steve McKenna also left the team with an elbow infection that was expected to sideline him for the final four games of the Penguins' five-game road trip.

Already injured were defenseman Dick Tarnstrom (broken foot), forward Dan LaCouture (concussion), forward Shean Donovan (foot) and defensemen Michal Rozsival (shoulder) and Josef Melichar (shoulder).

Tarnstrom, the leading scorer among NHL defensemen with 25 points at the time he was hurt, is expected to be out at least another two weeks.

The injuries are forcing the Penguins to break in rookie defensemen Brooks Orpik and Ross Lupaschuk, who had no NHL playing experience until Tuesday night's 4-2 loss in Toronto. Lupaschuk's giveaway behind the Penguins net led to Mats Sundin's go-ahead goal.

To help ease their manpower shortage, the Penguins recalled center Milan Kraft from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.
